Headquartered in the Swiss town of Porrentruy, the Sphinx Systems S.A. company has been active in the field of gunmaking ever since the 1990s, when it absorbed the famed ITM - Industrial Technology & Machines A.G. firm which had been selling excellent Swiss-made clones of the Czechoslovakian CZ-75 pistol − dubbed the AT-84, AT-84S and AT-88 − in service, defense and Match setups all around the globes. Refining the design even further, the Sphinx Systems company managed to gain worldwide acceptance between civilian shooters and professional operators alike for its AT-2000 and AT-3000 pistol lines.

Now part of the KRISS International group, the Sphinx Systems company has been focusing on a brand new line of service, defense and competition handguns ever since 2012: the SDP "Service & Defense Pistol" series, an almost paroxysmal improvement of the CZ-75 design, is built around a two-parts frame, with the grip assembly being detachable from the upper frame assembly, which increases the modular capabilities of the platform and makes field-strip, cleaning and maintenance much easier.
New from the Sphinx Systems firm at the 2014 IWA & OutdoorClassics expo in Nuremberg are two new service-oriented and Match-grade variants, which add up to the already extensive SDP lineup.

The Sphinx SDP "Compact Krypton" pistol has been conceived as a service and defense pistol for law enforcement, military or Government operators, private security forces and individual citizens, and its 5.35-inches overall lenght makes it perfectly apt for both concealed and open carry, while the 3.¾" barrel ensures good range and accuracy. The two-parts frame is manufactured out of hard-anodized machined aluminium in olive drab or sand color, while the stainless steel slide sports a matte black PVD coating; the SDP "Compact Krypton" pistol also features a MIL-STD-1913 "Picatinny" rail, a 15-rounds 9x19mm detachable double-stack magazine, a SA/DA trigger with ambidextrous safety, and an interchangeable "Comfort"-style rubber-coated grip that allows practical handling by large-handed and small-handed shooters alike.

The Sphinx SDP "Production Duotone" full-size pistol is 8.3-inches long instead and sports a 4.5 inches barrel, which makes it perfect for IPSC and other sports shooting competitions. The SDP "Production Duotone" sports a PVD-coated black machined stainless steel slide mounted on full-lenght rails for optimal stability and accuracy, and a two-parts inox-finished stainless steel railed frame.
The Sphinx SDP "Production Duotone" also features a six-notch "Picatinny" rail, a fixed negative angle front iron sight, an adjustable competition rear sight and a Match-grade trigger. The double-stack detachable magazine holds up to seventeen rounds of 9x19mm ammunition.
