The Haenel RS9 in .338 Lapua Magnum (8.6x70) is known as the G29 medium-range sniper rifle in the German armed forces. The new, modernised HLR rifle series from Bundeswehr supplier C.G. Haenel from Suhl, in Thuringia, has been given a facelift compared to the Haenel RS8/RS9. We tested a civilian HLR Basic in 6.5 Creedmoor and an HLR Pro in .308 Winchester.

The high precision of its tried-and-tested CR semi-automatic rifles gave the Suhl-based company C.J. Haenel the idea of designing a special premium version for sports shooters.
