An operation that brings one of the most respected names in precision-rifle engineering into a group that already plays a major role in the global small-arms industry: for FN Browning Group, the acquisition of Accuracy International expands its capabilities in two key areas such as military and law-enforcement small arms, and premium hunting and sport-shooting products. It also gives further substance to the United Kingdom’s ability to maintain critical small-arms know-how and production capacity onshore. On the other hand, Accuracy International will gain access to FN Browning Group’s broader industrial resources, worldwide commercial network, and decades of experience supporting military, security, hunting, and sport-shooting customers.
FN and Accuracy International, two highly complementary players
Established in 1980 and based in Portsmouth, Accuracy International has built its reputation on rugged, highly accurate bolt-action rifles designed for military, law enforcement, and specialist civilian use, particularly in the extreme long-range segment – in the past five years alone, the company has served customers in more than 50 countries. Inside FN Browning Group, Accuracy International will occupy a clearly defined and complementary position. Its expertise in precision rifles fits naturally alongside FN’s defense portfolio, which includes small arms, integrated weapon systems, NATO-standard ammunition, and advanced equipment for armed forces and security organizations. At the same time, the brand adds further depth to the Group’s sporting and hunting activities, already represented by Browning and Winchester.
From a UK perspective, the deal is particularly relevant. FN UK and Accuracy International together represent the country’s established industrial base for machine guns and precision rifles supplied to the British Armed Forces. By combining Accuracy International’s specialist rifle know-how with FN Browning Group’s international reach, the acquisition is expected to open new export opportunities while reinforcing the UK’s position in the high-end small-arms sector.
As Colonel Will Waugh, Dismounted Close Combat Team Leader, National Armaments – Materiel, explains: “The MoD has a long history of working with both FN and Accuracy International with some of our most important small arms capabilities being procured from both companies. The joining of these companies is great news for the MoD and gives us continued access to cutting edge capabilities.” Julien Compère, Ceo Of Fn Browning Group, agrees: “Accuracy International brings a unique and highly specialised expertise in precision rifle systems that perfectly complements our defence and security solutions as well as our hunting and sports shooting offerings. This transaction also directly contributes to the UK's strategic autonomy in defence and reflects our long-term commitment to the United Kingdom and our role as a trusted industrial partner to the UK Ministry of Defence.”
For his part, Tom Irwin, Director Of Accuracy International, confirms that, “Joining FN Browning Group represents a strong strategic opportunity for Accuracy International. We share the same culture of engineering excellence, performance and dependability. This agreement enables us to preserve what defines Accuracy International while benefiting from the scale, global footprint and long-standing institutional relationships of FN Browning Group.”
Accuracy International will retain its own identity, brand, engineering approach, and manufacturing operations in both the United Kingdom and the United States. That continuity is central to the transaction: the company’s reputation rests on precision, durability, and field-proven performance, and those values will remain at the core of its products.
