Springfield Armory Echelon Pro: three new compensated 9mm pistols

The Echelon Pro 4.5F Comp, with its 4.5-inch (114 mm) barrel.

Springfield Armory has expanded its Echelon lineup with three new performance-oriented variants. The Echelon Pro 4.0C Comp, 4.0FC Comp and 4.5F Comp retain the modular architecture of the existing series while adding features that would normally require aftermarket components.

All Echelon Pro models are polymer-frame, locked-breech, striker-fired semiautomatic pistols. They are built around Springfield Armory’s Central Operating Group, or COG, the self-contained serialized operating chassis that can be removed from the frame and transferred between compatible grip modules of different sizes and colors.

Another feature shared across the series is the Variable Interface System, which allows a wide range of red-dot sights to be mounted directly to the slide without conventional adapter plates. The rear sight is black and finely serrated to reduce glare, while the front sight incorporates a tritium insert surrounded by a luminescent orange ring.

The Springfield Echelon goes Pro

The compensator is integrated into the slide and barrel assembly. The high-profile front sight features a tritium insert surrounded by a luminescent orange ring.

The most obvious difference compared with earlier Echelon variants is the Springfield Grey Cerakote slide with its integral compensator.

Propellant gases are directed upward through ports machined into the forward portion of the barrel-and-slide assembly, counteracting muzzle rise. The objective is greater control during firing and faster target reacquisition for follow-up shots.

The grip module features Springfield Armory’s new LightForged Grip Texture, created by precision laser etching of the polymer surface. The pattern debuting on the Echelon Pro is called Badlands and visually resembles dry, cracked earth.

The polymer grip module features the new LightForged Grip Texture, produced through precision laser processing.

Its particularly aggressive texture is designed to provide a secure, consistent grip, approaching the effect of custom hand stippling while retaining the repeatability of an industrial process.

At the base of the grip is a steel machined flared magwell, designed to assist magazine insertion during fast reloads. It can be removed when flush-fitting magazines are preferred.

The Pro package also includes a stainless-steel guide rod and three extended magazines.

As on the other Echelon models, the controls are fully ambidextrous. The front of the frame incorporates an accessory rail for lights and aiming devices, while deep front and rear slide serrations provide secure purchase for loading, clearing and press checks.

Three configurations for different roles

The Echelon Pro is offered in three configurations: the 4.0C Comp, 4.0FC Comp and 4.5F Comp.

The most compact model in the new family is the Echelon Pro 4.0C Comp, which combines a 4” barrel with a compact grip module. It ships with three extended 18-round magazines and is the configuration most clearly oriented toward concealed carry.

The Echelon Pro 4.0FC Comp uses the same compact upper assembly and 4-inch barrel but pairs it with a full-size grip module. This hybrid configuration combines the shorter slide and overall length of the compact model with the greater gripping surface and 20-round capacity of the full-size frame.

At the top of the range is the Echelon Pro 4.5F Comp, the full-size version with a 4.5” barrel. It also comes with three extended 20-round magazines.

All three Echelon Pro models have now entered the domestic market, each with an MSRP of $899, although availability may vary depending on state and local regulations.
