Baschieri & Pellagri BP 100 series: the handgun powders

A new appointment at Baschieri & Pellagri headquarters in the company of technician Gianluca Garolini. This time, he leads us to discover one of the new handgun powders that make up the BP 100 series..

Baschieri & Pellagri: new powders for handguns and rifles

Presented in this 2020, the series from BP 100 to BP 109 includes 4 new propellants for long guns and 3 for pistols and revolvers. The aspects on which Baschieri & Pellagri's research focused to reach new and better results are:

  • high thermodynamic potential
  • ease of metering
  • regular and consistent combustion
  • high adaptability and versatility
  • consistency in performance
  • stability regardless of product lot and climatic conditions

This is how the new powders – which will be available in gun shops from September – are born. All share the same iron gray color and a remarkable smoothness. The two handgun powders BP100 and BP102 come in form of flattened and smooth discs, not very hygroscopic. BP103 comes in form of fine-grain microspheres.

The 4 rifle powders, BP106, BP107, BP108 and BP109, are composed of a large proportion of spheroidal grains and a small proportion of flattened grains.

The new powders are already included in Baschieri & Pellagri's Relative Burning Rate table. The Baschieri staff studied the loads caliber by caliber, evaluating the pressure/velocities with numerous tests. Elaborating these data they drew up the new loading tables where the minimum and maximum loads are analyzed powder by powder, caliber by caliber, bullet by bullet, with many possible combinations and various components brands.

For our loading test Gianluca Garolini chose the .38 Special caliber, which is popular among sport shooters who are passionate about reloading. Enjoy the video.
