Umarex unveils the improved Gauntlet 2 PCP air rifle

Umarex Gauntlet 2 PCP air rifle shooting test
The Gauntlet 2 offers higher velocity and higher tank capacity, with as many as 70 or more shots when shooting the .22 caliber.

More shots, more velocity, and more energy on impact: in 2017 Umarex introduced the Gauntlet PCP air rifle, which already made impression with its advanced features, power and accuracy. For 2021, Umarex USA unveils the newly redesigned and improved Gauntlet 2. Offered in .22 and .25 calibers, the newcomer is claimed to achieve a great number of shots using higher pressure air regulators and more air capacity – as many as 70 or more shots when shooting the .22 caliber and over 50 with the .25 cal., thanks to its high capacity 24 cu. in. regulated tank. Besides the shot count, the most important differences between the new Gauntlet 2 and the old Gauntlet model are the higher velocity (1075 fps vs. 880 fps in .22 cal. / 985 fps vs. 890 fps in .25 cal) and higher tank capacity (24 CI x 4400 psi instead of 13 CI x 3000 psi). Barrel is 28.25” long (717 mm), 0.25”/6 mm more than the former model. The stock is an adjustable precision style and the silencer is now a 4 baffle design instead of the single baffle type of the older model, which means that the Gauntlet 2 is 8 dB quieter at the muzzle. The oversized,easy-to-grip knurled cylindrical bolt handle also provides a more positive interface.

The Gauntlet 2 is a high-performance PCP air rifle designed for hunting, precision shooting and, of course, plinking. According to the manufacturer, “The built-in regulator delivers minimal FPS variation from shot-to-shot for long flat shot strings. This multi-shot repeater uses easily loaded interchangeable 10-shot (.22 cal. ) or 8-shot (.25 cal.) magazines for rapid bolt-action firing and the mags are standard among Gauntlets.” The gun comes with one rotary magazine and single shot tray – the latter should be of interest for target shooters looking for ultimate precision. Additional airgun magazines are available as accessories.‌

The 4500 psi air tank is easily filled using the built-in, standard Foster quick connect fitting.

The high-strength polymer stock, that has been slimmed down and trimmed for reduced weight, is molded in Flat Dark Earth with the adjustable cheek rest accented in black. It includes integral QD sling mounts and M-LOK slots on three sides of the reinforced and lengthened forearm. At 8.5 lb/3855 g, the Gauntlet 2 is a comfortable to carry even on long hunts. If your are more target-shooting oriented, the rifle has integral standard dovetails and a Picatinny rail for scope mounting.
