New SIG Sauer P365 XL, the evolution of the micro-compact

The introduction of the micro-compact P365 in early 2018 (we talked about this here) raised some dust in the concealed carry community. A couple of months ago some photos and info about a further evolution of that concept leaked: it was the P365 XL, a gun that according to SIG combines the capacity, control, and shootability of a full-size pistol with the concealability of a micro-compact. The P365 XL is now finally shipping.

Among the P365 XL features, a longer slide and grip, an integrated carry magwell, an extended beavertail and a trigger with a “X” signature flat profile.

When the P365 was introduced it hit the market by storm, and was a game-changer when it comes to Everyday Carry, by delivering unprecedented capacity in a micro-compact size. The P365 instantaneously became the top-selling pistol, and one of the most award-winning pistols in history,” explains Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales, SIG Sauer, Inc.

“With the P365 XL we have once again redefined Everyday Carry by delivering 12+1 capacity, or 15+1 capacity, in a highly concealable, compact profile while bringing many of the XSeries features to the P365 that are extremely popular and sought after by consumers.”

In short video SIG Sauer Pistol Product Manager Phil Strader explains the key features and benefits of the P365 XL:

12-round magazines of the new  SIG Sauer P365 XL
The pistol comes with two 12-round magazines, but 15-round magazines are available separately, together with other magazine styles with different extensions.

The new SIG Sauer P365 XL is a 9mm striker-fired pistol featuring the XSeries P365 grip module with an integrated carry magwell and extended beavertail, a trigger with a “X” signature flat profile that breaks at 90 degrees, and a 3.7”/ 94 mm barrel for increased accuracy while retaining concealability. The nitron-finished stainless steel slide is extended accordingly. Together with the new grip module, the latter only add about 1/2" (or some 13 mm) to the overall length and height of the micro-compact P365, while increasing the capacity to 12+1 rounds of 9mm. Fifteen-round magazines are available separately too, and SIG offers at least four magazine styles with different extensions. Retail price for the P365 XL is 579 USD.

Needless to say, after testing the P365 we look forward to having in our hands the XL version too: stay tuned!
