The M400-FORGE is the latest offspring of SIG Sauer's M400 family, based on a classic AR-15 direct impingement gas-operated platform and aimed at shooters who want a factory-built semi-auto AR with premium features already in place, rather than a base gun to upgrade later.

The M400-FORGE comes in two configurations: the full-size “rifle” with 16-inch (406.4 mm) barrel, and the shorter “pistol” version with 11.5 inches (292.1 mm) barrel. Both variants are chambered in 5.56 NATO and share the same core philosophy: duty-oriented reliability, modern ergonomics, and out-of-the-box readiness. This is also shown by the fact that SIG equips the M400-FORGE firearms with a ROMEO-MSR Gen II 2 MOA red-dot sight for fast sight acquisition.
Other features that the rifle and pistol variants have in common include a TriggerTech 3.5-pound two-stage flat-blade duty trigger for a clean and repeatable break and a free-floating M-LOK handguard with a full-length Picatinny top rail. The manual safety is ambidextrous. Magazine capacity is 30 rounds.
The rifle variant is offered in four receiver finishes – Black, Concrete Gray, FDE, and Moss Green – while the pistol variant's receiver is available only in Black finish.
M400-FORGE rifle and pistol configurations compared

The full-size M400-FORGE rifle features a 16” cold hammer-forged barrel paired with a mid-length gas system. That configuration typically delivers smoother cycling and a more balanced shooting impulse than shorter gas layouts, while also maximizing the ballistic potential of the 5.56 NATO cartridge. Complementing the rifle-format setup is a MAGPUL SL-K six-position adjustable stock. Overall length is 901.7 mm (819 with stock collapse), weight is 3,084 g. In practical terms, this is the more versatile and traditionally configured model in the family: longer sight radius if backup irons are fitted, greater velocity potential, and a handling profile that favors stability and control without sacrificing the modularity expected from a modern AR.

The M400-FORGE pistol translates the same concept into a notably more compact package. Here, the barrel length drops to 11.5 inches (292.1 mm) and the operating system shifts to a carbine-length gas setup. The handguard measures 10 inches, and in place of the rifle stock the pistol uses a MAGPUL BSL arm brace. SIG lists an overall length of 757 mm (706 mm with arm brace collapsed) and a weight of 2,800 g, underscoring the model’s emphasis on maneuverability.
Compared with the rifle variant, the M400-FORGE pistol model is quicker to deploy in confined spaces and easier to transport, while sharing the same trigger quality, optic package, ambidextrous controls, and general accessory compatibility. The trade-off, naturally, is the shorter barrel’s reduced ballistic performance relative to the 16-inch rifle.
