Ed Brown FX2, a 1911 Commander with a contemporary twist (and factory-mounted Trijicon red dot)

Ed Brown is an American manufacturer of high-quality handguns, known for its craftsmanship and precision. Founded in 1968 by Ed Brown, the company has evolved from a gun accuracy business to a manufacturer of components and, eventually, complete firearms. Specialising in the production of 1911 pistols, Ed Brown combines advanced technology with meticulous attention to detail. Their pistols are prized by sport shooters and law enforcement officers alike for their reliability and superior performance.

The Ed Brown FX2 is a Colt Commander-style pistol equipped for concealed defensive carry. it is chambered in 9x19 calibre (9 Luger) or the classic .45 ACP.

Chambered in 9mm Luger or .45 ACP, the Ed Brown FX2 is a compact 1911-style semi-automatic with a 4.25-inch (107-mm) barrel and a Commander-style slide on which Trijicon's new RMRcc sight is factory-mounted, making it ideal for concealed carry. The front slide serrations, with proprietary FX cuts, and the rear slide serrations reproducing the American flag create an impressive display of ingenuity and craftsmanship. The Commander Bobtail frame of the Ed Brown FX2 is finished with a Snakeskin treatment on the frontstrap and mainspring housing. This texture, reminiscent of a snake's scales, gives the gun a gritty look and above all makes for a very firm grip in all conditions. The Bobtail frame from Ed Brown is a modification that makes concealed carry of the pistol easier. It consists in removing the rear grip lower edge. This modification reduces the weight of the pistol and makes it more comfortable to carry in an internal holster. In addition to the RMRcc, 3.5 MOA red dot sight, the Ed Brown FX2 features a proprietary rear sight and an Ameri-Glo front sight with Glock-style orange fiber optic insert. The mechanical sights co-witness with the red dot.

The manual safety lever with tactical profile is not ambidextrous, but left-handed shooters can ask the manufacturer to customise this control. Custom level details include the flush barrel with recessed crown, blued trigger and barrel bushing that match the black G10 grips. The Ed Brown FX2 is built entirely by hand from parts machined from solid billets, is customisable in every detail and benefits from the manufacturer's lifetime warranty. All of this of course comes at a price, and the FX2 is priced in the US starting at $3,995 (about €3,800).
