Jacob Grey TWC Hex: a modern American take on the double-stack 1911

The Jacob Grey TWC Hex. Its bull barrel measures 108 mm (4.25 in), while the pistol weighs about 878 g (31 oz) without a magazine.

Jacob Grey Firearms is reaffirming its commitment to the Hex lineup, a family of premium American-made double-stack 1911 pistols. A new licensing agreement with HEXMAG gives the company a clear path to continue manufacturing, selling and developing the platform without changes to the pistols themselves.

Jacob Grey’s double-stack 1911 platform first gained broad attention with the TWC Hex, named “Best Pistol” by GunsAmerica at SHOT Show 2025. The pistol is built with billet-machined components, particularly tight tolerances and manufacturing processes rooted in Jacob Grey’s aerospace experience.

The Hex is a 9mm Luger semiautomatic pistol based on the double-stack 1911 layout. It features a 4.25” bull barrel, an optics-ready slide using an RMR-pattern footprint, and suppressor-height sights with self-luminescent tritium inserts. The ported bull barrel and corresponding slide cuts help reduce muzzle flip during quick strings.ces.

The frame and grip module are CNC-machined from billet 7075 aircraft-grade aluminum and hard-coat anodized. The pistol ships with two 17-round magazines, while Jacob Grey’s one-piece Controlled Radius Trigger has a nominal pull weight of about 1.6 kg (3.5 lb). The Hex measures 7.76” overall, weighs approximately 878 g (31 oz) without a magazine and carries an MSRP of $3,499.99.

“The Hex has become an important part of our product portfolio, and we’re excited about where we can take it from here,” said Todd Neice, president of Jacob Grey Firearms.

In recent years, the South Carolina manufacturer has expanded its lineup with the Nox 9, Nox 9 Limited and StageMaster, the latter aimed primarily at competition shooting. Jacob Grey has also teased an entirely new platform now in development, although the company has not yet released images, technical specifications or an introduction date.

More broadly, the Hex is another indication of how cyclical the American handgun market can be, with familiar concepts periodically returning in new and increasingly refined forms, just as the Wonder Nine has.

The Jacob Grey TWC Hex is optics-ready and can mount a slide-mounted red dot using an adapter plate.
