RUAG Ammotec, Sauer and Zeiss Sport Optics have partnered for the very first live fire testing event on the 7th of March 2013, the day before IWA officially open its doors to the specialized media and trade visitors.

Using RUAG’s impressive array of shooting ranges located within its manufacturing plant in Furth, a few kilometers out of Nuremberg, which include a very unique 500 meter tunneled range and a 300 meter open range, media members from all over the world invited to this exclusive event have been able to live fire the new Sauer S101 bolt action hunting rifle in a variety of calibers, fitted with Carl Zeiss Sport Optics' top of the line Victory HT riflescopes featuring the new ASV+ bullet drop compensating turret and the premier RWS EVO GREEN lead-free hunting ammunition, introduced in August 2012.

This First IWA Shooting Day marks a milestone, as never before, it has been possible to test shoot new weapons, optics and ammunition showcased at the IWA & Outdoor Classics trade show; actually, as far as we know this is the very first time RUAG allows members of the press to simultaneously use its firing ranges.

Following a brief introduction to the event schedule and lunch, in the early afternoon the live firing session commenced.

The RWS staff distributed all guests evenly in the four shooting ranges reserved for the event, so that everyone had the opportunity to fire all the available guns.

3M Peltor supplied ear protection headsets for the event, introducing the streamlined version of their flagship electronic ear protection headset model, the Peltor WS Sport Tac Light .

Along with the main products, RWS showcased the new Power Ball in 4.5mm caliber and Power Piercing in 5.5mm caliber airgun Field Line specialized pellets, and the new R50SC .22LR 50 meter specialized match rimfire ammunition optimized for short chambers (SC) in the Premium line of rimfire ammunition.

Also Pilla protective eyewear showcased its shooting goggles, featuring Zeiss sunlenses.

Highlights of the IWA Shooting Day included testing in the 500 meters indoor range of the surprisingly accurate Sauer 202 Synchro XC, a sporting rifle chambered in the Norma 6mm XC caliber. This bolt action rifle, featuring a light 17mm diameter barrel fitted with a muzzle brake and a Carl Zeiss Victory FL riflescope, in our hands consistently printed 50-60mm groups at 485 meters, using Norma Diamond Line ammunition.

It was also possible to witness a live comparative ballistic gel testing of the terminal effects of the EVOLUTION GREEN ammunition at a distance of 200m; and last but not least, the opportunity to briefly visit the manufacturing plant in a guided tour.
