FN 509 Compact MRD, full-sized performance in a compact package

Optics-ready firearms are the way to go these days. Expanding its line, FN America just released the smallest addition to the FN 509 family of pistols, the FN 509 Compact MRD. It's an optics-ready, polymer-framed compact pistol featuring the company’s patented FN Low-Profile Optics-Mounting System.

Chambered in 9mm, this striker-fired pistol features a 3.7” / 94 mm barrel and compact slide, standard 12+1 capacity and the capability to accept all higher capacity FN 509 magazines with use of a sleeve. The polymer frame also sports the usual MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail and replaceable steel frame rails.

The most important and defining feature is the patented optics mounting system that allows for a low-profile, direct mount through a carefully developed plate system. This perfectly positions the optic so that the focal point allows for a low-profile mount and co-witness with the all-black iron sights that minimize interference with the optic.

Completing the optics-ready FN509 family

The cold hammer-forged stainless steel has a recessed target crown and polished chamber and feed ramp.

Besides the FDE version, the new FN compact pistol is also available in black.

Improved, fully ambidextrous controls aid in manipulation, the new improved texturing on the two included backstraps provides better recoil management, and a new flatter faced trigger allows for more controllable trigger press and cleaner break. The all-black co-witness iron sights are combat-style. Other features include an external extractor, loaded chamber indicator, and improved front and rear cocking slide serrations. Besides the flat dark earth (FDE) version, the new FN compact pistol is also available in black.

The FN 509 Compact MRD ships in a branded soft-sided, zippered case with FN Low-Profile Optics-Mounting System plate kit, two interchangeable backstraps, one 12-round magazine (with pinky extender) and one 15-round magazine or two 10-round magazines, owner’s manual, and locking device.

All this for a MRSP of 799 USD. The new pistol is already available in the US – we'll inform you about its availability in Europe as soon as we have further info.
