Three new available colors – blaze orange, OD green and a distinctive camouflage version – in the Double Safe Hunter folding knives line-up from Cold Steel. The original Double Safe Hunter is described by the Texan manufacturer as a budget friendly yet high-performing knife. Modeled after Cold Steel's popular old-school Voyager series, it features a wide, 3.5" long clip-point blade. Made of high-carbon 8Cr14MoV stainless steel and treated to 57-58 Rockwell hardness, the Double Safe Hunter is tough, corrosion resistant, and easy to maintain a sharp edge. The thin glass-filled nylon (GFN) handle is ergonomically pleasing and has a steel pocket clip.
The blade is small enough for intricate cutting tasks “yet big enough to skin anything from a mouse to a moose,” according to the claim. Moreover, as the “Safe” in the name implies, these knives are specifically designed to avoid hurting your fingers during manipulation and use thanks to a rocker lock that features a secondary safety mechanism that, when engaged, is particularly resistant to shock and impact.
Cold Steel Double Safe Hunter knives: safety first
“Experienced hunters favor compact lockbacks for their precise control, strength, and convenient storage in daypacks and accessory pockets. The Double Safe Hunter series delivers on all those fronts and introduces added security via a rocker lock secondary safety mechanism. This device is shock and impact resistant and prevents unintentional blade deployment.” A slip-resistant texturing and a pronounced finger groove and curved handle profile reduce the chance of hand slippage.
The new handle color options, including the high-viz blaze orange model, further expand the scope of use of the Double Safe Hunter knives. Priced from $39.99 (orange and OD green versions) to $44.99 (camouflage version), they are quite inexpensive too.
