Paris 2024 Olympic Games: sport shooting events to begin on July 27, 2024 – Media coverage and time schedule

At the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, the first medals were in the women's 10m Air Rifle final. Shooting will also open the medal table in Paris on Saturday, July 27, with the rifle final – but that of the Mixed Team, that is, mixed male/female teams. It is likely that the medals will be put around the winners' neck by IOC President Thomas Bach, as per tradition.

At the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Paris 2024, 329 events are scheduled in 762 sessions from July 24 to August 11, 2024. There are 15 shooting events, for a total of 54 medals also counting the "double medals" of the three Mixed Team events (10m air rifle, 10m air pistol and Skeet). There will be a total of 340 shooters, and the qualifiers list will be completed during 7 events in 2024.

The Games will begin with an action-packed day, and then there will be plenty of pivotal moments during the 19 days of competition. The first shooting competition is the one that finishes first and awards medals around 12 p.m. But on that same Saturday, the first official day of competition, podiums and medals are scheduled for seven other sports in addition to shooting: cycling, with women's and men's time trials; judo; fencing; diving; rugby sevens; swimming and skateboarding.

Paris 2024: Experiencing the very special thrills of the Olympic disciplines for shooters

The finals of the shooting competitions are always scheduled in the afternoon.

Mornings will be intense for all the shooting finals: starting at 9 a.m. or 9:30 a.m. until no later than 1:05 p.m (local time). Highly tense afternoons too for clay target shooting: since the last 50 clay pigeons will be shot on the same day as the finals, the last medals will be awarded at 5:05 p.m.

As for broadcasting, the IOC (International Olympic Committee) already announced that they awarded the rights for the 2026 and 2032 Olympic Games to Warner bros Discovery and the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) group, which brings together the European public networks. The competitions will therefore be broadcast minute by minute for subscribers on Eurosport and streamed on Discovery+ and Eurosport Player. Discovery+ will offer full, on-demand coverage of more than 3,800 hours. In any case, fans will be able to watch the events in real time or catch up with them at a later date.

The 10m Air Rifle Men's final (Doha World Cup here) is scheduled for Monday, July 29.

The advent of online streaming platforms has revolutionized the way fans consume sports content. This is also the case for sport shooting: ISSF has a YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@issfchannel) and also a Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ISSF.Shooting) where it streams international competitions. During the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, they may perhaps broadcast updates and insights. We hope so!

Gender equality - mixed competitions at the center of attention:

The competition schedule is already available on the Paris 2024 website, below we have extrapolated the useful shooting schedule. Intended to be the most gender-equal Olympic Games in history so far, the Paris 2024 program has placed mixed competitions at the center of attention. And there will always be an alternation of men's and women's events in the programming, as much in the finals of team sports as in individual disciplines.

The final day of the Olympic Games in Paris, Sunday, August 11,2024, will highlight women's sports. Wrestling, weightlifting and track cycling will conclude with women's events, and the women's basketball finals will also take place on this same day. Finally, just hours before the Closing Ceremony, for the first time since the introduction of the women's marathon in the 1984 Los Angeles program, the women's competition will be held the day after the men's event, just to conclude the Paris 2024 athletics program.
