Rottweil – the long-standing German shotshell manufacturer owned by RWS GmbH, which itself is a member of the Beretta Defense Technologies (BDT) alliance – is broadening its international Defence & Law Enforcement portfolio with fourteen dedicated 12-gauge loads for professional users. Designed for law enforcement, security agencies and special operations units, the expanded line now goes well beyond door-breaching ammunition to include slug, buckshot, training and counter-UAV cartridges.
Shotguns have served military and police units for more than a century and remain a highly versatile tool in service around the world. Their effectiveness, however, depends heavily on selecting the proper load for the mission. The new Rottweil lineup includes three slug loads, five buckshot cartridges, two training loads and four anti-drone/C-UAV solutions.
The DLE range from Rottweil in detail
The slug selection is led by the powerful 12/76 Brenneke Magnum EDP, loaded with a 38-gram projectile and intended for hard-target applications. Two additional slug loads, a 12/70 with a 32-gram projectile and a 12/67.5 with a 28-gram projectile, are optimized for soft-target use.

The buckshot range covers both 12/70 and 12/67.5 chamberings. Four 12/70 loads are offered, including a 32-gram load with 21 No. 3 pellets, two 30-gram loads with 9 No. 0 pellets and 8 No. 00 pellets respectively, and a lighter 20.5-gram copper load with 9 No. 0 pellets. The fifth option is a 12/67.5 copper buckshot load with 18 grams of No. 1 shot in a 9-pellet configuration.
For training, Rottweil adds two 12/70 cartridges: a 34-gram hard-lead No. 5 load and a 31-gram steel No. 2 load. These rounds are intended to support realistic, repeatable practice while matching the requirements of professional shotgun programs.
The C-UAV segment reflects the growing operational demand for shotgun-based counter-drone solutions. Three of the four anti-drone loads are 12/70 cartridges with 34-gram payloads: two copper loads in No. 6 and No. 4 shot sizes, and one hard-lead No. 4 load. The fourth cartridge, the Anti Drone Extended Range 12/70, uses a special construction with hard-lead No. 3 shot to produce a tight, stable pattern for engaging small aerial targets at extended distances.
All loads are designed for use in both pump-action and semi-automatic shotguns, depending on the specific firearm and application. Carefully matched components and mission-oriented load designs are intended to ensure dependable functioning and consistent ballistic performance.
