New Minox RS-6 2.2-14x50 riflescope – The features that make this all-round scope so versatile for hunting

The new Minox RS-6 riflescope series includes the classic driven hunting model RS-6 1-6x24, the RS-6 1.6-10x42 designed for both stalking and driven hunts, the RS-6 2.2-14x50 for a wider range of applications and the more powerful RS-6 3-18x56 BDC as the top model for the high seat at dusk and hunting at longer distances. The abbreviation "BDC" stands for "Bullet Drop Compensation" – but more on that later.

In this article, we have selected the Minox RS-6 2.2-14x50 all-round scope as an example from the new model family of these 6x zoom riflescopes manufactured in the German optics town of Wetzlar.

Minox RS-6 2.2-14x50 Hunting riflescope – the most important details

Hunters with an affinity for optics can already recognise from the information after the model series designation "2.2-14x50" that Minox has designed this RS-6 model as a versatile all-round scope for different types of hunting and that the zoom factor is even somewhat higher in purely mathematical terms, with a value of around 6.37. As with all riflescopes in this series, it also has a compact design that makes it easier for hunters to use this optic together with a clip-on for hunting wild boar at night.

The illuminated dot in the #4 reticle of the new Minox RS-6 2.2-14x50 can be dimmed in 10 steps and thus adapted to the ambient light.

When it comes to reticles, Minox uses a #4 reticle with a fine illuminated dot in the 2.2-14x50 version of the RS-6, which appears in the centre of the crosshairs via thin fiber optics and covers only 0.5 cm of the target at maximum magnification at a distance of 100 meters. The intensity of the small illuminated red dot can be adjusted in ten stages using a rotary control on the left-hand turret and thus optimally adapted to the prevailing light conditions. The setting can be clearly felt when adjusting by means of small detents, but also has a window-like scale with numbers from 1 to 10. There is an "Off" position between each rotary button on the control so that you can quickly return to the last selected illumination setting if necessary. An automatic switch-off function that responds after ten minutes of non-use ensures that the CR 2032 button battery used for the power supply lasts longer. The energy management of the illuminated dot is supplemented by a tilt sensor that deactivates it when the gun is lowered and switches it on again when the gun is raised.

The adjustment turrets are protected by caps in keeping with their primary hunting purpose. In addition to the parallax adjustment, the left turret also houses the control unit and battery compartment for the reticle illumination.

In addition to the controller and the battery compartment for the reticle illumination, there is also a parallax adjustment ring in the left turret. According to Minox, this ranges from 45 m to infinity, whereby the lower setting value on the ring is specified as 50 m. The distribution of tasks for the other two turrets also holds no surprises. The turret on top of the 30-mm main tube is for the elevation adjustment and the right-hand turret for the windage adjustment. Both use a click adjustment that works well and shifts the reticle by 1 cm per click at a distance of 100 m in the corresponding direction. The adjustment screws have wide slots and can also be turned with a coin. The total elevation adjustment range is 270 cm at 100 m and that the windage range a total of 130 cm at 100 m. Both adjustment screws are protected by cover caps.

With the BDC (Bullet Drop Compensation), Minox also offers an easily retrofittable quick reticle adjustment for the RS-6 series of riflescopes.

If required, the conventional elevation adjustment can also be easily replaced by an optional quick reticle adjustment for around 140 euros. At Minox, this option is called BDC, which stands for Bullet Drop Compensation.

The field of view at 2.2x magnification is 16.6 metres at 100 meters. If the zoom ring at the front of the eyepiece housing is set to the maximum value of 14x, the field of view is still 2.9 metres at 100 meters. The diopter adjustment, which ranges from -2 to +3 dpt, is located at the rear end of the eyepiece from the shooter's point of view.

In terms of quality, the manufacturer Minox promises precise mechanics and the use of high-quality materials for all riflescopes in the RS-6 series, such as the specially selected types of glass, which should ensure a particularly brilliant, high-contrast and sharp image right up to the edges. In connection with the optical performance of the RS-6, Minox also refers to the large eyebox, which is designed to make it easier for the hunter to get an optimum view into the eyepiece even in unfavourable shooting positions.

In terms of price, Minox is sending the RS-6 2.2-14x50, which was developed and manufactured entirely in Germany, into the race for the favor of hunters looking for a sophisticated and contemporary riflescope with 6x zoom at a recommended retail price of €1,550. Hunters who prefer to mount the riflescope using a rail integrated into the scope can also purchase the RS-6 2.2-14x50(S) version for €1,580 (RRP). At 323 mm, this has the same length as the 725 g model for ring mounting, but weighs around 35 g more due to the rail, i.e. around 760 g in total. The Minox scopes of the RS-6 series are already available on the market.

The compact Minox RS-6 2.2-14x50 is predestined for use together with an attachment: the riflescope weighs 725 grams, has a length of only 323 mm and a robust lens housing with an M54x0.75 filter thread. As a hunting scope, it comes with low-profile turrets. Here you can see the version for the classic ring mount.
