Springfield Armory 1911 Operator pistol now also available in 9mm

In 2021 Springfield Armory introduced the Operator, a 1911 pistol characterized by duty- and tactical-grade features such as forged frame and slide, Tactical Rack rear/tritium front sights, ambi safeties, front and rear slide serrations, magazines with bumper pads, and G10 grips. Originally offered in the classic .45 ACP caliber, the SA Operator 1911 is now also available in 9mm.

Springfield Armory Operator, “a must-have tool for self-defense”

Apart from the caliber, the 9mm Operator shares the same features of the .45 model.

“The Operator 1911 builds on the century-plus of service behind the gun and adds the benefit of the ever-popular 9mm round.” Still presented as a “no-nonsense defensive grade pistol,” the new Operator 1911 in 9mm shares the same basic features cited above. The forged carbon steel frame and slide, in particular, ensure strength and durability. The 5"/127 mm forged stainless steel, match grade barrel has a fully supported ramp and 1:16 twist.

The new Springfield Armory 9mm Operator has a skeletonized hammer, extended beavertail grip safety, G10 grips, ambi safety and front/rear slide serrations.

Designed with tactical and defensive applications in mind, the Operator also features an integrated Picatinny accessory rail on the dust cover for mounting lights, lasers or combo units. The ambidextrous thumb safety makes controls manipulation easier even for left-handed shooters. Similarly, the skeletonized hammer and extended beavertail grip safety ensure a pinch-free grip and fast locktimes.

Sights include a tritium front and Tactical Rack white dot rear.

Of the forged steel parts of the Operator 1911, a rugged black Cerakote finish ensures protection from corrosion. Notwithstanding the smaller caliber, with 9 rounds magazine capacity is just one round more than the .45 Operator version. This may be a limit for some users.

The Springfield Armory 9mm Operator is a defensive-grade pistol. A rugged black Cerakote finish ensures protection from corrosion even after extensive use.

The tactical-grade, effective and aesthetically pleasing G10 grips come from the specialist VZ Grips. Like all Springfield Armory handguns, a double-zipper case is included. Thanks to The soft-sided shell, the pistol and mounted accessories are protected during transportation, while while an interior pouch can hold an additional magazine.

The price, too, is the same as the .45 ACP version: the new 9mm Operator has a price tag of $1,184, with two magazines included.
