Springfield Armory adds a 9mm version to its XD-S Mod.2 line

First it was the .45 version last January. Now Springfield Armory adds to its XD-S Mod.2 pistol line a 9mm version. “Since the release of the XD-S Mod.2 in .45 ACP earlier this year, Springfield Armory has engineered a pistol specifically designed around the 9mm round, resulting in a smaller frame and slimmer profile in this latest version of the XD-S Mod.2”, they explain at Springfield Armory. And with a single-stack polymer frame less than 1-inch (25 mm) wide, the XD-S Mod.2 actually “disappears under even the lightest clothing”, they claim.

Springfield Armory XD-S Mod.2 in 9mm: reliability in a small package

The 9MM XD-S Mod.2 features enhanced grip texturing and the new, longer Posi-Wedge slide serrations.

The platform – the same as the .45 model – is a well-tested and reliable one, since the XD-S Mod.2 in 9mm passed a 25,000 round torture test without a failure.

Among the upgrades of the XD-S Mod.2 in 9mm, an AmeriGlo Pro-Glo tritium front sight for quick and accurate target acquisition mated to a tactical-rack serrated rear sight that allows to rack the slide against available surfaces such as a belt, doorway, boot etc. should it become necessary to cycle the gun one-handed. A fiber optic front sight and tactical-rack serrated white dot rear sight are also available.

With a polymer frame less than 1-inch wide, the XD-S Mod.2 9mm is ideal for concealed carry.

The enhanced grip texturing and the new, longer Posi-Wedge slide serrations make the gun easier to operate even with wet or sweaty hands. The grip safety has been re-designed, while a loaded chamber indicator allows shooters to check the condition of the gun by eye and by touch. The 9mm XD-S Mod.2 also features a drop safety in the striker block.

The barrel is 3.3 in long. The low bore axis and the dual captive recoil spring with full length guide rod increase recoil control and accuracy.

With a MSRP of 586 USD, the XD-S Mod.2 ships with two stainless steel magazines: a 7-round mag with a pinkie rest and additional flush floor plate for carry and one 9-round extended magazine. An 8-round extended magazine is also available for purchase.
