Nighthawk Custom VIP Agent 2, a (very) high-end 1911 pistol

At Nighthawk Custom they define it “a true 21st century heirloom piece”. The VIP Agent 2 is in fact something more than a 1911-style high-end pistol, since it combines classic finishing techniques and contemporary innovation and machining. Unfortunately – it must be said right away – all this comes at a posh price tag of $ 8,499. But the fundamental question in these cases is always the same: is it worth the money? Let's see.

A gun born out of a cooperation

Born out of a cooperation between Nighthawk Custom, Turnbull Restoration, and Agency Arms, the VIP Agent 2  is crafted with all the finest customizations, including a classic case hardened and polished frame. The slide is faceted with side windows and high polished, charcoal blued – just like the slide stop, magazine release, and thumb safety. The front sight is an 18k solid gold bead. Grips are a beautiful mammoth ivory set. Lastly, it comes in a custom case. Nighthawk Custom also warns that every pistol will vary slightly in appearance because each case-hardened frame and each set of mammoth ivory grips is unique. 

The match grade barrel is crowned and flush-cut. 

This as far as aesthetics are concerned. From a technical/functional point of view, the VIP Agent 2 is a .45 ACP caliber semi-automatic pistol featuring a forged Government frame with ultra hi-cut front strap and lightened recon rail. The match grade barrel is crowned and flush-cut. The slide has front and rear cocking serrations; front strap, back strap, and controls all sport a matching texture, while the magazine catch is an extended type, faceted, and angled. The mainspring housing/magwell is one piece. As for sights, a solid black Heinie Ledge rear sight completes the set with the aforementioned gold bead front sight.

So, is the $ 8,499  price justified? You are the judge. On a last note,  the VIP Agent 2 is obviously limited in availability.
