Kimber K6s DASA Combat revolver, design and efficiency for concealability and power – The smallest 6-round cylinder in .357 Magnum

The modern and functional line of the Kimber K6s Combat revolver
The modern and functional line of the Kimber K6s Combat revolver is characterized by the cylinder without lightening grooves.

The well-known firearms manufacturer Kimber has recently expanded its production bringing to the market this wonderful revolver with a remarkable stopping power, that only in photography may look bulky. Just take it in your hand or compare it to other products to understand that here human ingenuity has borne one of its best fruits in terms of design and efficiency.

If you like "combat" revolvers with external hammer, featuring a DA/SA action, this particular Kimber K6s Combat model offers a perfect trigger with a respectable pull weight, where the double action is smooth and manageable, with a trigger lock time ideal for every kind of shooting, even for well-considered shots.

The very small cylinder
The very small cylinder has a capacity of 6 rounds in .357 Magnum.

The weight, but above all the small size and good balance of the revolver, make it particularly interesting if you consider that the K6s Combat has an extra small cylinder which holds six rounds in .357 Magnum caliber with a width of just 1.39”/3.53 cm.

The counter-bored cylinder accommodates the cartridge rims so no case head protrudes from the rear. The cylinder swings on the left side, and the release button is on the same side of the frame. This is very convenient, since you can release the cylinder with ease by pushing with the thumb of your right hand. It did not hinder quick reloading.

The blued steel front sight has a white dot.

The cylinder shield allows to glimpse the loaded rounds. The hammer is checkered and fairly wide at the top for a good grip when shooting in single action. The K6s Combat locks up perfectly, with no plays or misalignments. The markings on the barrel indicating the model are very elegant. The muzzle is well designed, as is everything else. The corners of the barrel and barrel are nicely chamfered. The sights are particularly generous, made of black metal, which contrast with the light color of the brushed stainless steel construction of the K6S Combat. The rear sight has two white dots and the front sight has one white dot. Overall they are quite visible for easy targeting. On the frame, the line of sight passes through a trench milled on the top strap.

The K6s Combat is the evolution of the excellent two-inch, internal-hammer K6s (a particular DA only gun). In addition to the latter we find the single action and also the anatomical Combat wood grip, which features finger grooves and diamond checkering for an excellent grip. The revolver is all stainless steel.

Concealed carrying the K6s Combat

The visual appearance of the K6s Combat DASA is unquestionably nice and elegant. We tested the revolver both on the shooting range and using it as an every day carry firearm for a couple of weeks. For concealed carry, the best compromise for total concealability was an IWB holster in soft technical fabric.

Very interesting are also the dedicated Kimber-branded holsters in shaped leather, for right or leff side carrying.

Considerations

The gun did not cause any discomfort, being light, easily concealable and ergonomically well designed, even if we are talking about a revolver with a 4” barrel. During the shooting range drills, where we tested the reaction and extraction capabilities, the K6s Combat did not reveal any functional or structural defect – even the protruding sights that, more than all, gave us some doubt, did not cause any problem with any draw technique.

The test firing

The .357 Magnum and .38 Special ammo – which can be obviously used in this revolver – let us range over a wide variety of products, from FMJ to plain lead bullets, from copper plated to specific self-defense cartridges with lighter bullets, such as the Fiocchi Black Mamba. The revolver also produced good groupings with a shot shell cartridge.

Groupings at  3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 25 yards were all excellent in both double and single action.

The K6s Combat was very manageable, with acceptable recoil even when firing the most powerful loads. Logically, using the .38 Special, recoil is not particularly noticeable. Using standard .357 Magnum FMJ commercial loads it remains comfortable and the stress on the shooter's hand is minimal even after many shots. On the whole, therefore, it is a revolver suitable both for professionals and for those who approach a medium/high range firearm for the first time.

It gave us the idea of being very functional for the use it was designed for.
