CZ Shadow 2 Gold Digger in 9mm Luger, a special edition limited to 800 pieces

The CZ Shadow 2 (or II) semi-automatic pistol is currently one of the most popular models in the Czech manufacturer catalog. Based on that milestone of gunsmithing engineering that was the CZ75, this semiautomatic pistol in 9x19 caliber is especially popular with those who do not know and do not want to give up the features of the more proven and classic wondernines such as the metal frame, the high-capacity double-stack magazine, and the DA/SA trigger with external hammer and inertia firing pin.

CZ Shadow 2 Gold Digger: a special, heavier version

The CZ Shadow 2 Gold Digger's magazine release is oversized, while the trigger is has a gold-colored titanium nitride finish.

The CZ Shadow 2 Gold Digger is a special version of the production gun, and was made in 800 examples for the international market. The changes from the standard version are not purely cosmetic but are also reflected in functionality, as we will see below.

But let's start with the most obvious detail, namely the gold-colored anodized brass grips that make this version deserve the name “Gold Digger”. The grips match the  color of the magazine pad, also made of brass, and contrast with the barrel and slide black finish. The choice of brass instead of the more predictable aluminum is intended to increase the overall weight of the gun by about 200 grams, making felt recoil milder. In fact, the Shadow 2 Gold Digger weighs 1,500 grams compared to about 1,300 for the standard version.

The trigger has a gold-colored titanium nitriding finish. The magazine release button is oversized to make it easier to operate during the most frantic situations of a dynamic shooting match. The manual safety on the frame is ambidextrous. On the left side of the frame, just above the Picatinny accessory rail, we find the engraved inscription “Special Edition”, confirming the exclusivity of this version.

The slide of the CZ Shadow 2 Gold Digger is “Optics Ready” for red dot  mounting, and on this version it features a set of sights consisting of a rear notch that is elevation and windage micrometrically adjustable and a front sight with a high-visibility red fiber optic insert. Barrel length, on the other hand, is the same as the standard model, or 120 millimeters, and magazine capacity is 19 rounds in 9mm. The CZ Shadow 2 Gold Digger comes in a hard case that also contains a second magazine. The official list price (MSRP) is $1,399.99.

The Gold Digger is a special version made in 800 pieces, but everyone can have a custom version of CZ pistols using the online configurator that allows you to choose from countless combinations of finish, sights, grips and so on. We have already talked about it here on all4shooters.com and recommend you go and play with it a bit.

Brass grips and magazine pad bring the overall weight of the CZ Shadow 2 Gold Digger to 1,500 grams, helping to reduce recoil and muzzle rise.
