Since its introduction (or better, re-introduction) at the end of 2017, the Ruger PC Carbine has been offered in several versions and variations.

The Magpul stock offers a unique locking interface to attach the barrel assembly to the receiver, providing an in an efficient, convenient packaging for transport or storage.

Now comes a further model, this time featuring a factory-installed Stealth Gray Magpul PC Backpacker stock. Chambered in 9mm Luger, this new model “offers a minimalist solution for the hunter or outdoorsman and was designed for those who want to transport their carbine in an efficient, convenient package without compromising shooting performance or ease of deployment,” in the manufacturer's words.

The Magpul PC Backpacker stock offers a ton of useful features, including an ergonomic handguard, optional QD sling mounting capability, integrated storage compartment in the grip, a hinged storage compartment in the stock capable of storing spare magazine, an MOE SL non-slip rubber buttpad, and a unique locking interface to attach the barrel assembly to the receiver when being transported – actually making the gun look a bit like a circus contortionist. In Ruger's catalog the same Magpul stock is also available in dark gray, olive drab and dark earth colors, but these are listed as distributor's exclusive versions.

Mechanically, the PC Carbine with Gray Magpul PC Backpacker stock shares the same features of all the other Ruger's PC carbines: it' a blowback centerfire semi-automatic pistol-caliber carbine. The dead blow-action features a custom tungsten dead blow weight that shortens bolt travel and reduces felt recoil and muzzle rise. Easy takedown is in fact possible for ease of transportation and storage: to separate the barrel/forend assembly from the action you have just to to push a recessed lever, twisting the subassemblies and pulling them apart.

Another nice features in common with other PC Carbine models is the availability of interchangeable magazine wells for use of common Ruger and Glock magazines. The gun comes from the factory with an SR-Series/Security-9 pistol magazine well installed. An additional magazine well accepting Glock magazines is included. Magazine release and charging handle are reversible for both left- or right-handed users.

The chrome-moly steel barrel is cold hammer-forged, with a heavy contour for consistent accuracy and fluting to reduce overall weight. The muzzle is threaded for mounting of standard muzzle accessories. The receiver, CNC-machined from an aerospace-grade 7075-T6 aluminum billet, has an integrated Picatinny-style rail. Finish is a Type III hard-coat anodizing for maximum durability. The trigger utilizes proven 10/22 trigger components. Sights include an adjustable ghost ring rear aperture sight and a non-glare, protected front blade. As mentioned, caliber is 9mm Luger (9x19).

The Ruger PC with Gray Magpul PC Backpacker stock ships with one SR-Series or Security-9 pistol magazine and hex wrenches for rear sight adjustment and charging handle removal. MSRP in the USA is $899.
