Haenel .308 Winchester LR/ONE Short , the compact and handy rifle for long range shooting

In recent years, German manufacturer C.G. Haenel, based in the historic town of Suhl, has carved out a place for itself in the crowded Long Range rifle sector with a series of products characterised by an excellent price/quality ratio.

The Haenel LR/ONE Short bolt-action rifle is designed for long range shooting enthusiasts who are looking for a compact, handy and easy-to-carry rifle without having to sacrifice accuracy. Like many of the latest European-designed rifles, the Haenel LR/ONE is designed from the outset to be able to fit a silencer, as their use is becoming increasingly widespread. The 420-mm barrel is long enough to provide excellent accuracy, but at the same time allows the suppressor to be fitted without the overall length of the gun becoming too difficult to handle. But that's not all: Haenel also offers a silencer specifically designed for the LR/ONE Short, developed in collaboration with a Swiss company, which we will discuss below. In addition to .308 Winchester, an all-rounder that is known to be surprisingly accurate even in short barrels, the LR/ONE is available in 6.5 Creedmor, for now in the Standard version. It is also worth mentioning that in recent years, specific ammunition for use in short-barreled rifles, such as the RWS Short Rifle with leaded or unleaded bullets, has been placed on the market with great success, providing excellent performance in terms of both energy and accuracy.

The Haenel LR/ONE Short compact rifle in .308 Winchester

For many dynamic rifle shooters, rifle handiness and compact size are important features, especially if you participate in many competitions. Long-range shooting ranges are almost never easy to reach, and the handling of guns, accessories and ammunition is an important aspect of the sporting endeavour that must be taken into account. The Haenel LR/ONE Short is a compact rifle that is easily transported to the competition range, and once on the range the "Short" is quickly ready to shoot: the new hinged butt plate is opened and locked in the blink of an eye. The cheek rest and butt plate cap can be easily adjusted to suit the needs and body of the shooter. The stock folds to the left side with an extremely sturdy and stable hinge that has no play. Once folded to the side of the rifle, the stock locks firmly in place. With the stock folded, the rifle is only 72 cm long and when unfolded, between 89 and 97 cm, a range determined by the length-adjustable buttstock. The pistol grip is  AR-15 compatible, so those who are uncomfortable with the standard grip can easily replace it with an almost infinite number of aftermarket options.

The barrel of the Haenel LR/ONE Short is 420 mm long with an external diameter of 19 mm and is fully floated. The muzzle thread, with an M15x1 pitch, is covered by a protector and is designed for mounting a silencer. A special model has been designed to fit perfectly. Together with the Swiss specialists at B&T, Haenel developed a compact-sized silencer consistent with the rifle short length. The designers' priority was ease of handling, thus maintaining a small footprint without adversely affecting efficiency. The signature silencer with aluminum body reduces muzzle blast by 29 dB, weighs 400 grams and is suitable for medium calibers (.30). The silencer saves approximately 65 mm in overall length thanks to its overbarrel design; it is 170 mm long with a diameter of 50 mm. The total length of the rifle with silencer fitted ranges from 102 to 110 mm.

The Haenel LR/ONE Short rifle features a direct trigger, factory set at 900 grams. There are no mechanical sights, but the long Weaver rail on the receiver's top and along the entire length of the handguard, allows for the mounting of any type of optics, even those with thermal clip-ons, magnifiers and more. The aluminum handguard with octagonal cross-section wraps around the barrel for almost its entire length and has on its sides the now popular M-Lok slots that allow for the mounting of a wide variety of accessories. The bottom side of the fore-end has an Arca Swiss interface that makes it easy and safe to mount a tripod. The magazine is made of glass-reinforced polymer. It has a standard capacity of 5+1 rounds but now, by popular demand, a 10-round magazine is also available. It is therefore possible to fire longer strings without interrupting concentration to change magazines. The retail price of the Haenel LR/ONE Short rifle is around 2,500 euros (price may be different in your country due to VAT and import duties).
