RWS Performance Line: 3 new calibers of short rifle hunting ammunition for short barrels are now available

The trend towards guns with short barrels continues and enjoys increasing popularity among hunters too. This development is supported by the increasing use of suppressors – where allowed by law, of course.

However, as is well known, standard ammunition is ballistically designed for the common barrel length of around 23.6”/600 mm. When firing standard ammunition from short barrels (16.5” to 21.6”, or 420 mm to 550 mm), however, there are also disadvantages such as loss of energy and velocity, reduced effective range, dazzling muzzle flash, loud muzzle blast and accelerated suppressor wear. 

RWS has therefore developed a cartridge that is specially optimised for use from short barrels. In practice, this means firing from short barrels (with and without suppressors) without any disadvantages in bullet effectiveness. With the RWS Short Rifle cartridges, there is no longer any loss of performance in hunting practice compared to long barrels, thanks to powerful primers and particularly fast-burning powder.

The most important benefits of the RWS Short Rifle ammunition from the Performance Line:

1. Optimized for rifles with short barrels (with and without suppressors)
Thanks to the use of a specially formulated load with a fast-burning powder, appropriate bullet weight and high-performance primers, this special ammunition from RWS is optimized for short barrels between 16.5” to 21.6” (420 and 550 mm).

2. Reduced muzzle flash
The special powder significantly reduces both muzzle flash and muzzle blast from short barrels. This allows the hunter to maintain a good overview immediately after the shot – a great advantage especially for twilight and night hunting.

3. Full bullet velocity and energy on the target
Short barrels are ideal for hunting, especially in combination with a suppressor. The fast and complete burning of the powder in the barrel ensures a significantly longer service life of the suppressor and also enhances accuracy.

4. Full bullet velocity and energy on the target
Thanks to its specially formulated load, the new RWS Short Rifle cartridge delivers full velocity and energy even from short barrels. In practice, this means no hunting limits compared to long barrels and full effectiveness of the bullet even at longer ranges.

The RWS Evolution Green is a lead-free, partially fragmenting bullet with a number of interdipendent design features. The two bullet cores are made from food-safe tin. The bullet is suitable for all ordinary game animals, but its strengths are best used against light to medium game. The advantage of the lead-free Evolution Green bullet is a particularly fast responsiveness, which is achieved through a pre-fragmented front core, as well as the Speed-Tip bullet tip for an impressive shock effect. This results in significantly shorter flight distances in game and less searching for the hunter.

The RWS HIT is a lead-free expanding bullet with high weight retention. The abbreviation HIT stands for High Impact Technology. The bullet is known for safe and fast mushrooming with great shocking power, also at longer ranges. The solid slug with 99% residual weight ensures deep penetration and a certain exit wound – even after striking bone. The classic RWS Speed Tip Professional lead bullet promises maximum knock-down power even over long ranges. It reliably covers operational ranges from close range up to 300 meters and beyond. It's suitable for almost all weight classes and game species. The very fast expansion in the game body is achieved through the Speed Tip bullet tip with integral hollow point and the easily fragmented front core. The harder rear core ensures penetration power. In hunting practice, this means significantly reduced flight distances and certain exit wounds with welded tracks.
