Most users will be familiar with Nextorch in connection with lights, telescopic batons and handcuffs. Now the company has expanded its own product portfolio to include a multi-tool in two versions. What may seem unusual at first, makes perfect sense on closer inspection: Nextorch is not only a manufacturer of lights, but also a full-range supplier for professional users. The new multi-tool goes by the name of Pioneer MT20 and comes with 14 tools. We took a detailed look at the tool:
The Nextorch Pioneer MT20 multitool in detail
The Nextorch Pioneer MT20 is mainly made of 20Cr13 and 30Cr13 steel as well as YG8. The blade of the knife is made of 50Cr15MoV. With dimensions of 109×39×28 mm, it weighs 268 g. When open, it is 163 mm long.
In detail, it has the following functions:

- Plastic handcuff cutter
- Retaining clip
- Rescue shears
- Ruler
- Seatbelt cutter
- Replaceable slotted screwdriver
- Regular pliers
- Needle-nose pliers
- Premium replaceable wire cutters
- Premium replaceable hard-wire cutters
- Knife blade
- Saw
- Oxygen tank wrench
- Bottle opener
The screwdriver can be replaced with a handcuff key. The two wire cutters are interchangeable.

Function, operation, price and the verdict on the Nextorch Pioneer MT20

The blade and saw of the Pioneer MT20 are locked. To use them, the user must press the locking liner. The same applies to the cutter for plastic handcuffs. This comes out of the device by pushing the screw on the respective side of the tool upwards. This operating concept is self-explanatory and – like the manufacturer's lights – is designed to be easy to use, even in stressful situations. To ensure fatigue-free working with the tool, the integrated rescue shears are spring-loaded. The tool housing is rounded so that high force transmission is possible without causing pain in the hand.
In addition to the version of the Pioneer MT20 with a sleek Tactical Grey Stonewash finish, it is also available in a MT20RE tool version. This has an eye-catching exterior in a red signal colour. A further LEO blue rescue version is available too. However, the functions of all these models are identical and all MT20s are available to customers for a price of $109.99 each, including a robust Cordura bag.
The Pioneer MT20 is clearly focussed on the professional fields of rescue, EMS and tactical use. Thanks to its universal features, however, it is also suitable for private and leisure users who want to have the necessary tools immediately to hand in the event of an accident or other emergency situation. The tool also cuts a fine figure as part of a first aid kit, for example.
