New R8 Ultimate X: ten rounds for the Blaser straight-pull bolt-action rifle

The well-known Blaser R8 straight-pull bolt-action rifle has now a magazine capacity of 10 rounds (instead of the classic  4+1 capacity in standard calibers and 3+1 in medium and magnum calibers).

The R8 Ultimate X  also features the Blaser Saddle Mount and Picatinny optics rail. Comb is adjustable.

The new R8 Ultimate X – where the X stands for the Latin numeral “10” – now accepts a 10-round magazine, featuring a design that allows enough space even for larger magnum cartridges. Both the Standard and Magnum calibers magazines hold 10 cartridges.

According to Blaser, “In order to increase the magazine capacity, the trigger system has been removed from the rifle’s magazine unit and has been incorporated into a newly developed extension of the receiver instead.” A new component, inserted between stock and receiver, makes room for the extended magazine.

The R8 Ultimate X rifle is ideal for training, competition, driven hunting. Moreover, a right-handed or a left-handed bolt can be used, so that the shooting hand always remains on the pistol grip. By changing the bolt head, the case ejection can be regulated to the left or right without using any tools and while using the same barrel and receiver.

The new design allows enough space even for larger magnum cartridges in the 10-round magazine.

The extended 10-round magazines can be released by pressing the side push-buttons. The R8 Ultimate X also features the Blaser Saddle Mount and Picatinny rail, as well as the new Blaser Ultimate BiPod. The Blaser saddle mount can in fact still be used with the R8 Ultimate X., but “due to the slightly increased length of the rifle, it may be necessary to adjust the eye relief to the optics according to individual preferences. The standard available configuration consists of an adjustable comb, an adjustable recoil pad or the new Compact recoil pad and a match bolt handle ball. With the new compact recoil pad, a fixed stock length of 350 mm can be easily realized on the R8 Ultimate,” they say at Blaser.

As for calibers, the R8 Ultimate X  is available in .338 Lapua Magnum, 8.5x55 Blaser, .338 Win.Mag., .300 Norma Magnum, .300 Win.Mag, .300 WSM, 7mm Rem.Mag., .270 WSM, 6.5 PRC, 9,3x62, 8x57 IS, 30-06 Spring., .308 Win., 7x64, .270 Win., 6.5x55 SE, 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5x65 RWS, .243 Win., 6XC.
