New CZ 457 Carbon rimfire rifle, light weight and accuracy

A new addition to the popular CZ 457 bolt-action rimfire rifle series and the first CZ firearm with a carbon fiber wrapped barrel: meet the CZ 457 Carbon chambered in .22 LR. Carbon fiber wrapped barrels have been all the rage in recent years. The reason is that carbon fiber, a composite material, is much lighter than steel but stronger and has a higher tensile strength: a carbon-wrapped steel barrel offers shooters the accuracy and repeatability of a bull barrel but with a much lighter weight and with reduced vibrations after each shot. Moreover, it allows heat to dissipate more effectively than it would with steel alone. As a result, the .22 LR CZ 457 Carbon weighs only 2.15 kg – the lightest model in the CZ 457 rimfire rifle series, while still providing the same accuracy as varmint models.

The CZ 457 Carbon comes with a 5-round flush magazine. Trigger is adjustable and bolt throw is 60°. The rifle comes factory with no iron sights.

CZ 457 Carbon features

The ergonomic and weather resistant polymer stock with a soft-touch digital camouflage pattern finish of the CZ 457 Carbon improves comfort.

“The CZ 457 Carbon is an extremely lightweight rimfire rifle that opens up a new dimension in shooting. It is the ideal firearm for extended stays in the countryside, as well as for sport or recreational shooting,” say the guys at CZ. The heart of the innovative CZ 457 Carbon, which combines the best characteristics of steel and Carbon fiber, is a heavy profile, steel cold hammer forged barrel equipped with a match chamber. Carbon fiber is then wrapped around it and glued in place. The barrels are manufactured with the latest technology and boast extremely tight tolerances, up to the very limits of CIP specs. Thanks to this, CZ can guarantee a 1 MOA accuracy with match ammunition. Barrel length is 20”/525 mm.

The short 60 degree bolt throw will not interfere with a riflescope – the rifle has no mechanical sights – and trigger is adjustable.

The Carbon 457 striker status indicator protrudes from the rear of the bolt when the rifle is cocked, for a quick visual and tactile check.

Then comes the ergonomic and weather resistant polymer stock with a soft-touch digital camouflage pattern finish to improve comfort. CZ's own anti corrosion finish on all metal components is extremely durable and designed to withstand harsh weather conditions.

A flush 5-round magazine is included with the rifle, but you can also swap it with 10-, 15- or 20-round magazines available as aftermarket components.

The safety is a very silent push-to-fire system, natural and intuitive to operate since it disengages in the direction of fire. The bolt can be opened and removed even when the safety is engaged, so that you can check the condition of the rifle at any time or unload it.

Sill speaking of safety, the Carbon model also features the 457 series striker status indicator, a color coded pin that protrudes from the rear of the bolt when the rifle is cocked, for a quick visual and tactile check.
