If you disregard the huge barrel and the “tank” style brake at the muzzle, Big Horn Armory's SpikeDriver Tactical .500 S&W Magnum almost looks like a classic lever-action rifle, thanks to its American black walnut stock / forend and the black nitride finish of metal parts. But everything else is actually impressive: built for hunters, tactical shooters, and firearm enthusiasts who demand power, versatility, and reliability in a single platform, the rifle has been designed and built using the finest materials, techniques, and CNC technology. As explained by its creators, the SpikeDriver Tactical “embodies the best of the Models 1886 and 1892 lever actions in a modern platform capable of handling the powerful 500 S&W Magnum while delivering 300-600 fps more than the revolver”. Receiver and steel parts are manufactured using 17-4PH stainless steel, while the 16” Trapper barrel is 416 stainless steel. The lever is large and curved for ease of operation even with gloved hands.
Stock and forend have integral front and stud rear sling swivel mounts and are protected by multiple coats of a durable synthetic satin finish, then glass-bedded to the metal parts. The M-LOK tactical forend allows for the mounting of accessories. A 1” Pachmayr Decelerator pad and the already mentioned muzzle brake help manage recoil.
The SpikeDriver Tactical .500 S&W comes with a fibre optic front sight and a standard Skinner rear sight; a Scout scope mount is also provided.
