We already had the TX22 in .22 LR. Now Taurus expands the TX concept with a full line of striker-fired 9mm pistols available in full, compact and sub-compact variants: the Taurus TX 9 family. Taurus describes the TX 9 as its first purpose-built, duty-grade pistol platform – it is actually designed and tested to meet military and law-enforcement requirements worldwide, including NATO specifications. At the core is the Taurus Modular System: a serialized modular steel chassis that enables users to quickly swap between the different frame sizes. All Taurus TX 9 are optic-ready right out of the box, utilizing the existing Taurus T.O.R.O. (Taurus Optic Ready Option) System.
Taurus TX 9: three sizes engineered for real-world professional and defensive use
An ambidextrous slide release with reversible magazine catch, four interchangeable backstraps for additional customization, standard dovetails for iron sights ready to accept many aftermarket options are some of the features of the Taurus TX 9 family. (The TX9 pistols come factory with a drift-adjustable rear sight and a removable, white dot front sight.)
As the manufacturer points out, the Taurus Modular System makes the TX9 platform scalable, designed to evolve with the demands placed upon it. The three purpose-built sizes are in fact engineered around the same architecture while addressing distinct mission requirements.
Designed for duty use and home defense, the TX9 Full Size is a service handgun featuring a 4.5”/114 mm barrel and 17-round capacity. A 4.0”/102 mm barrel and 15-round capacity are the highlights of the TX9 Compact version, while the TX9 Subcompact with a 3.4”/86 mm barrel and 13-round capacity is obviously designed for concealed carry. In all three different footprints, however, you'll find the same controls, ergonomics and general “feel” for a seamless transition from one variant to the other. The modular grips with interchangeable backstraps also ensure proper fit for a wide range of hand sizes.
“The TX9 represents a defining moment for Taurus,” said Bret Vorhees, CEO of Taurus Holdings, Inc. “It is our first dedicated duty pistol platform, built on the TX foundation shooters already trust and engineered from the ground up for professional-grade performance. By bringing that DNA into a 9mm duty system – and building it here in the USA – we’ve delivered a platform designed to perform across every role and every size.”
