Taurus 817 carry revolver, seven rounds in .38 Special +P

Taurus (re)launches the 817 compact revolver. The 817 boasts a seven-round capacity and all-stainless-steel construction. Caliber is the classic .38 Special, but the revolver can safely fire +P cartridges for those who want to be able to rely on some more energy and a flatter trajectory.

Featuring a medium frame size and a 2-inch barrel – ideal for concealment – the Taurus 817 is a carry handgun designed for defensive use, where revolvers traditionally offer full reliability, readiness and simple/intuitive operation. And with seven .38 Special +P rounds in the cylinder, the new Taurus model should provide full peace of mind to concealed carriers who choose a revolver over a semi-auto pistol as a defensive carry platform. 

The Taurus 817 is “A rugged and compact powerhouse revolver chambered in .38 Special +P” that “offers discerning CCW practitioners a serious upgrade over traditional 5-shot revolvers” and “is purpose-built for those who trust their lives to revolvers,” as the manufacturer proudly claims. They also stress that 817 has been engineered with durability in mind to withstand daily carry and extended use in demanding conditions.

The Taurus 817 features a compact grip frame with soft, ergonomic rubber grips that are interchangeable with the Judge/Tracker models grips, and a DA/SA trigger. Coupled to a notch rear sight, the front sight is removable and utilizes the same footprint as the existing Taurus 856, allowing end users immediate access to a wide variety of options for customization. Hammer is exposed – as revolver tradition dictates – for precise, confident shooting.

Frame, barrel and cylinder are all stainless steel with a matte stainless finish.
