Spohr N670: a premium .44 Magnum revolver in four barrel lengths

With the newly available N670 model, Spohr is offering a revolver in .44 Magnum that is specially designed to meet the requirements of users in shooting sports but also offers a universal field of application thanks to several available barrel lengths. The revolver is an extension of the lines already available from the manufacturer and its design is based on the experience that Spohr has gained with its established .357 Magnum models. Instead of simply integrating a larger cylinder into an existing frame, the German manufacturer opted for a fundamental redesign in key areas in order to meet the specific requirements of this powerful and huge cartridge.

The Spohr N670 revolver in detail

The lock parts of the Spohr N670 are wire-eroded from highly tempered steel and not made from the significantly less durable MIM.

Specifically, the original idea at Spohr was to integrate the .44 Magnum into a frame designed for .357 Magnum revolvers. However, the technical challenge – in particular the modified cylinder chamber rotation of 72 instead of 60 degrees – led to a comprehensive revision of the design. The result is an independent model whose frame is specifically designed for the powerful centerfire cartridge: the N670. Despite the design modifications, the dimensions of the grip frame have remained unchanged: it corresponds to the familiar S&W L-frame with a round butt and is compatible with a wide range of grip panels available on the market. Depending on the barrel length, it comes with Nill Combi grips or Phil Hemphill match grips as standard. The revolver is manufactured entirely from stainless steel, which gives the revolver a solid construction and, in combination with the front-heavy design, should enable controlled shooting behavior. The lock parts are wire-eroded from highly tempered steel and are not MIM-machined.

With a length of 43.2 mm, the cylinder of the Spohr N670 is also suitable for the use of reloaded, heavier cartridges.

The 6-shot cylinder in .44 Magnum measures 43.2 mm in length. This makes it suitable for reloaders who want to use longer cartridges with heavy bullets. The polygonal rifled barrel with a twist rate of 300 mm is firmly screwed into the frame. The model is available in four barrel lengths – 3", 4", 5" and 6.5" – which should cover a broad spectrum from hunters to sport shooters. In the standard version, the N670 in 6.5" weighs around 1,490 grams.

The 5-inch version of the N670. A three-position rear sight from Spohr is also available.

On the trigger side, the N670 has a double-action pull weight of around 3,700 grams, which is characterised by a smooth, rolling action. The single-action trigger pull weight is 1,350 grams. After removing the grip panels, the trigger pull weight can be individually adjusted, while maintaining the necessary firing safety. Standard sights consist as of a serrated micrometer rear sight and an undercut front sight, which is available in several height options. The three-position rear sight from Spohr is ideal for shooters who regularly shoot at varying distances.
