Beretta introduces the APX A1 Ported, a new variant of its polymer-frame, striker-fired semi-automatic platform. The main difference compared with the standard APX A1 is the integral compensation system, consisting of ports machined into the barrel and the top of the slide, allowing the shooter to regain the sight picture more quickly. The system works in conjunction with a lighter recoil spring.
The APX A1 Ported retains the basic architecture of the APX A1 family, with an internal striker-fired system, tilting-barrel locked breech and a polymer frame housing a steel chassis. The pistol is chambered in 9mm Luger (9x19). In the Full Size version, it uses a 108 mm (4.25 in) ported barrel.
Beretta lists the overall dimensions as 191 mm (7.52 in) long, 142 mm (5.59 in) high with a 17-round magazine, and 34 mm (1.34 in) wide. Weight without a magazine is 800 g (28.2 oz).
Ported barrel and slide to reduce muzzle flip
The porting system is naturally the most obvious technical feature of the new Beretta. The barrel ports align with openings machined into the top of the slide, together forming an integral compensating system. During firing, propellant gases are directed upward, partially counteracting muzzle flip and helping the shooter place subsequent shots on target more quickly.
The slide also features deep front and rear cocking serrations for easier manipulation. On top is the APX A1 optic-ready interface, allowing a red dot sight to be mounted using the appropriate plate for the platform.
The mechanical sights consist of a high-visibility orange front sight and a black, serrated rear sight. The latter helps reduce glare and maintains a relatively clean sight picture even when a red dot is installed on the pistol.
Ergonomics and controls of the Beretta APX A1 Ported
The frame retains the ergonomic layout of the APX A1, with deeply textured gripping surfaces and interchangeable backstraps to adapt the grip to different hand sizes. The extended beavertail and undercut trigger guard allow the shooter’s hand to sit higher and closer to the bore axis. The front of the trigger guard also features a textured surface.
The controls have been sized with ease of operation in mind. The enlarged slide stop is ambidextrous, while the oversized magazine release can be configured for either right- or left-handed shooters. At the front of the frame is a Picatinny rail for mounting compatible accessories, with three slots on the Full Size version.
The pistol is supplied with three magazines. The configuration specified for the Italian market includes two 17-round magazines and one extended 19-round magazine. International technical documentation also lists a 21-round magazine where permitted by local regulations. An orange follower makes it easier to visually check the magazine.

The APX A1 Ported will be offered in black, FDE and OD Green configurations. The black version features a Bruniton-finished slide, while the technical sheet specifies a Cerakote finish for the FDE model. Beretta’s documentation also confirms that all variants are optic-ready and share the same basic dimensions.
