IWI (Israel Weapon Industries), an SK Group company, has delivered its ARBEL ADS (Anti-Drone System) to Thailand’s Ministry of Defense. Following integration into the rifles already in service and on-site training conducted by IWI technicians, the system has been deployed and is now operational for both day and night use.
The ARBEL ADS is a computerized fire-control system developed to increase hit probability and improve shooting effectiveness. The first round is fired mechanically when the shooter pulls the trigger, just as with a conventional rifle. As long as the trigger remains pressed, the system controls the timing and sequence of subsequent shots.

According to IWI, this solution simplifies trigger control – one of the most challenging aspects of shooting in dynamic situations – allowing the operator to concentrate on aiming and tracking the target.

Counter-drone engagements present very specific challenges, as the shooter must deal with small, fast-moving targets capable of unpredictable maneuvers, even at considerable distances. By automatically controlling follow-up shots, the ARBEL ADS is intended to make engagements more accurate and repeatable, even under intense operational pressure. The stated objective is to provide soldiers with an effective means of engaging threats at a distance across a range of operational scenarios.
A key feature of IWI's solution is its integration into weapons already in service. Unlike counter-drone systems requiring dedicated platforms or external sensors, the ARBEL ADS allows operators to continue using a familiar rifle with standard 5.56 mm ammunition. According to the manufacturer, there is therefore no need to learn how to operate an entirely new weapon platform.
The system is also not tied to a specific type of optic. It can be used with red-dot sights, low-power variable optics (LPVOs), thermal sights and night vision devices, adapting to the rifle's existing configuration.
IWI ARBEL ADS: Upgrading rifles already in service

WI offers two procurement options for the ARBEL ADS: the system can be supplied as part of a complete IWI-manufactured rifle or integrated into a weapon already owned by the customer.
Thailand's Ministry of Defense chose the second option. IWI technicians carried out the installation directly in Thailand, replacing the rifles' existing lower receivers with units incorporating the ARBEL ADS system.
This approach allows armed forces to upgrade their existing weapons locally, without replacing their rifle inventories or purchasing entirely new firearms.
According to the company, representatives of the Thai armed forces are already in discussions with IWI regarding an additional order for ARBEL ADS systems. Several other Southeast Asian countries are also at various stages of the procurement process, with further deployments expected in the coming months.
