A new addition to Barret's bolt-action, magazine-fed MRAD rifle family: say welcome to the MRADELR in .416 Barrett. The manufacturer – an Australian-owned, American manufacturer – Is widely recognized as the world leader in long-range, large caliber precision rifle design and manufacturing: it introduced the famed .50 BMG M82 anti-materiel rifle and explosive ordnance disposal more than 40 years ago, and its products are currently used by civilians, sport shooters, law enforcement agencies, the U.S. military and more than 75 U.S. Department of State approved countries around the world. The newly released MRADELR is an Extreme Long Range platform (that's what “ELR” in the name stands for) in the form of a high quality, military tested, off-the-shelf system with user changeable barrels and calibers.
Chambered for the proprietary 416 Barrett cartridge (but additional large-caliber options are to come in the future), the MRADELR is expressly designed to “deliver precision typically achieved only by custom-built rifles”, as demonstrated at the global “King of 2 Miles” competition, where the rifle earned a remarkable second place finish as a production rifle competing primarily against custom builds.
Barrett MRADELR, innovation and precision engineering
The Barrett MRADELR features a 36”/914 mm long barrel chambered in .416 Barrett with 1:9" (224 mm) twist rate; overall length is 1,575 mm, with a weight of 10.4 kg. The single-stack polymer magazine has a capacity of five cartridges.
The heavy-profile stainless steel barrel is hand lapped and fitted with the classic Barrett's high-efficiency 3-port muzzle brake: it can be replaced by simply loosening a screw, while the firing pin and bolt head can be disassembled and reassembled without the need of tools. The bolt head is nickel-plated with electroless technology to ensure maximum smoothness and wear/corrosion resistance. The 60° bolt-throw reduces the risk of interference between bolt handle ans scope and provides faster cycling for rapid follow-up shots.
The light alloy upper receiver features a continuous integral 10-MIL top rail that is an impressive 624 millimeters long, allowing for the mounting of any type of optics and add-ons. The sides of the handguard also have M-Lok interfaces that extend the possibility of mounting other accessories. An additional rail located on the handguard front bottom makes the use of a bipod easier.
The stock has a Cerakote finish available in Flat Dark Earth, Tungsten Gray, and Black. On the fixed buttstock, the oversized recoil pad and cheek piece can be both height adjusted by the user. The single-stage trigger group module is adjustable and can be removed from the rifle without the use of any tools.
Bryan James, President of Barrett Firearms, commented on this momentous occasion stating, "This rifle is a testament to our unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in long-range shooting. We look forward to sharing this innovation with the world at the 2024 SHOT Show and bringing the same capability to the hands of marksmen who demand nothing but the best."
Retail price of the Barrett MRADELR rifle in the U.S. is $9,995.
