FN halts production of commercial SCAR rifle series

FN America is discontinuing all commercial models of the SCAR rifle. This is now officially confirmed by a manufacturer's statement on social media channels that leaves no room for doubt and reads as follows:

“No more rumors. FN America has completed our final production run of the commercial legacy SCAR series in the US. This includes the 16S, 17S and 20S but not the SCAR 15P. What's currently in our market is all that remains – so if you've been wanting one, now's the time to grab it before it's gone”.

Admittedly, the decision to discontinue the SCAR series for the civilian market was due to a lack of demand. The sad piece of news doesn't impact the military market, though: “None of this affects FN's global military SCARs,” the statement continues, “these are still in demand and still in production.”

FN's intriguing suggestion, however, is to “look for more info leading up to SHOT Show 2026”: something new is on the way? Time will tell...

As for those who already own a commercial legacy SCAR, you shouldn't “worry about support of parts,” they assure. “Owners can still receiver service through our support center and spare parts will remain available through official distributors for a period of time.”

Lastly, “as for accessories, magazines for the legacy SCAR 17S and SCAR 20S will continue to be available in the future; however, the supply of accessories, such as barrel assemblies, will be limited over the next five years.

Introduced in the early 2000s, the FN SCAR (Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle) is a gas-operated modular battle/assault rifle with a rotating bolt that was originally developed for the United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM). SCAR rifles are used by the military forces of United States, France, Belgium, Poland, Ukraine, and other countries.

Besides the SCAR-H PR precision rifle, FN's SCAR product family includes the SCAR-L (5.56x45 mm NATO) and FN SCAR-H (7.62x51 mm NATO) assault rifles with interchangeable barrels, and the FN SCAR-SC subcompact carbine.
