Staccato HDP4 and HD P4.5 in 9mm Luger: the evolution of the double-stack frame does not stop

The Staccato HS P4 is the version with a 4-inch barrel and is also designed for concealed carry.

Staccato Firearms is an American company specialising in the production of high quality pistols, known for their accuracy and reliability and used in sports. Founded in Texas, Staccato is a veteran-led company and over 25% of their team members served in the military. The company is famous for evolving the classic design of John Browning's 1911 into the 2011 double-stack platform, prized for its sophisticated ergonomics, increased capacity and reduced recoil. Staccato pistols are used by sport shooters and law enforcement officers alike, with over 1,600 agencies endorsing their products. The biggest news for 2025 is the new "full size" semi-automatic pistol with which the American company has done a complete ergonomic overhaul, and offers the user a new optics mounting system, improved recoil system and an active firing pin block that provides a combination of durability and shootability at the highest level. Pushing the 2011 platform to its technological limits, the new HD line offers improved ergonomics, an optimised grip and compatibility with Glock magazines. The pistol has been designed with great consideration of the indications coming from the military, where the use of the pistol in action is indeed limited – but when it becomes necessary, absolute reliability is paramount.

The special HD version of the Staccato P4 has lightening cuts at the slide front and is fitted with a set of Meprolight night sights.

The Staccato HD is currently available in two versions, P4 and P4.5 respectively, with the number referring to the barrel length. The pistol comes in 9mm and is sold with a steel magazine with a capacity of 18 rounds, but any polymer or metal magazine compatible with Glock full-size pistols can be used. Both models have a composite frame with a steel top section and polymer grip, with a manual safety and slide release lever on both sides, while the magazine release is easily reversible.

The controls of the new Staccato HD are ambidextrous, while the magazine release is reversible. It uses the same magazines as full-size Glock pistols.

The HD P4 model has a 4-inch (100 mm) Bull Barrel, while the HD P4.5 version with a 4.5-inch (114 mm) barrel has a design that Staccato refers to as a "Sight Block". In simple terms, the HD P4.5's Staccato's Sight Block features the sight mounted on a small mounting system separate from the slide, i.e. it does not move when the slide recoils, helping to maintain alignment on the target and improving accuracy. The front sight block reduces the mass and thus the slide's inertial moment, improving stability and significantly reducing muzzle climb. The slide is designed to accept a red dot optic with the new and improved HOST direct optics mounting system that allows the most popular optics in the industry to be mounted directly without the need for an adapter plate. This feature allows the HOST to use larger and longer optics screws for more secure attachment. This design improves the optic stability and accuracy, offering shooters more reliable performance. In a rather original solution, Staccato's engineers decided to place the fixed rear sight in front of the slide cut. This allows metal sights to co-witness more easily, even if a few centimetres of the sight radius are sacrificed. The front sight, on the other hand, is dovetail-mounted on the slide and is therefore easy to adjust laterally. The slide of both versions has large front and rear cocking serrations. The Staccato HD P4 is also available in a Premium version with a slide featuring lightening cuts where the front serrations are, Meprolight night sights and an aluminum magwell.

List prices in the US are $2,499 for the HD P4 model and $2,699 for the HD P 4.5 version.
