Thanks to an easy-to-use side folding mechanism, the 9mm M&P FPC has a 16.25”/413 mm long barrel but folds from 30.4" to 16 3/8" (772 mm to 416 mm) – quite compact for carry, cleaning, and storage. The charging slide/handle also doubles as retainer when folded. System is a simple and reliable blowback. 

As a plus, they stress at S&W, since the horizontal folding design with locking latch doesn’t interfere with top-mounted optics, you're able to mount any optic without losing zero. The carbine is in fact optics-ready and comes with no iron sights. The video below shows its features in full.
