New Smith & Wesson 9mm Response, the fully customizable PCC platform

“Adaptability is the advantage”, is the claim that accompanies the new 9mm Response PCC. Smith & Wesson introduced it in a virtual event, and here are the first info about what is described as a fully customizable platform allowing a lot of accessorizing and sporting a unique interchangeable magwell system.

Smith & Wesson 9mm Response PCC: the Flexmag magwell system allows you to use double stack magazines from different pistol platforms.

But the usual specs first: the Response carbine is a simple blowback design and features a 16.25”/413 mm barrel – actually, a rifle length barrel - with 1/2″x28 thread for 9mm compatible muzzle devices/suppressor systems. We also have a 15”/381 mm forend with M-Lok slots at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock. A Picatinny rail on top makes the Response optics ready. Controls are the familiar MSR ones.

The lower receiver of the Smith & Wesson Response is two-part:: to use magazines from different pistols you just have to drop a different magazine well right into the lower.

Upper and lower receivers make extensive use of polymer to keep weight down (5.9 lb//2,676 g with no magazine), so that the gun is easy to maneuver and easy to carry. Beside lightness and ease of use, the Response's main quality is adaptability though, featuring a M&P M2.0 pistol grip interchangeable palmswells, Magpul adjustable buttstock, standard polymer AR-15 charging handle, and standard AR-15 carbine buffer tube.

The flat face trigger is guaranteed to be crisp and smooth. But in case you have particular needs or want something different, the carbine is actually compatible with popular charging handles, grips, stocks and trigger groups for AR-style rifles
