An “extra layer of security” for those who want it: Ruger has dropped not just one, but two variants of its LCP MAX .380 ultra-compact carry pistol featuring an easy-to-use manual safety, located on the left side of the frame. We just said two variants: in fact, one of the new variants with manual safety also includes a magazine disconnect and a loaded chamber indicator on top of the slide. In terms of safety, this means one layer more, since the loaded chamber indicator provides quick visual and tactile confirmation of whether the chamber is loaded or empty (in case you ask: when the indicator is up, the gun is ready to go bang...).
Ruger LCP, a pocket-sized personal protection pistol

Now more on Ruger's LCP series: chambered in .380 ACP, it is a micro-compact and lightweight semi-auto gun expressly designed with concealed carry in mind – “smaller than every micro-compact 9mm pistol available today,” is the claim here. Dimensions are pretty diminutive: overall length is 131 mm, height is 105 mm and width is around 20 mm, with a 71-mm barrel (2.80”). Weight is 300 g. The LCP series is not striker-fired, but uses an internal hammer. Sights include a drift-adjustable steel rear u-notch and a tritium front sight with white outline for use even in low-light conditions. Sight dovetails are sized to accept aftermarket Bodyguard-pattern sights.

The medium-textured grip frame provides improved ergonomics and the Secure Action trigger has the usual inner trigger safety. Magazine release is reversible. Being designed for concealed carry, all corners and edges are smoothed for better comfort when carrying and handling.
All LCP series pistols come with a black glass-filled nylon frame and use a flush-fit 10+1 round double stack magazine but can also accept a longer 12-round optional magazine.
Both new manual safety options feature a matte stainless steel slide with polished sides and share the same price tag, at $379.00 (MSRP in the US). This includes one 10-round magazine, a soft pocket holster and a magazine loader.
