KMR Precision Arms, "all steel" semi-automatic pistols for IPSC and IDPA shooting

The landscape of Czech gun manufacturers is effervescent to say the least: driven by the global success of CZ, a number of small and medium-sized companies have sprung up and are gaining a place in the sun in our sector. Among these is KMR Precision Arms, founded at the beginning of the 2000s by a group of specialised technicians, which offers an interesting catalogue of CZ Shadow-style pistols with a very traditional layout, i.e. with steel frame and slide, external hammer and DA/SA action. KMR Precision has introduced some modifications to the original design and proposes two product lines: the first includes standard models, equipped with proprietary accessories and components; the second line consists of true custom models made in limited numbers, some of which were developed in collaboration with or at the request of shooting sports  and IPSC champions.

The new KMR W-02 Vapor OR SR for IDPA shooting

We start with the absolute novelty presented at IWA 2025, so new that it is not yet on the company's website: it is the KMR W-02 Vapor OR SR in 9mm Luger. It is the most compact sport shooting model in the catalog, with a barrel lentgh of only 4 inches and dedicated to IDPA circuit competitions. The Vapor meets the weight limits for IDPA's Carry Optics division, even with the steel frame and all permitted accessories. Like the other models it features a barrel stabilisation system inside the slide called the Barrel Ring System, a brass bushing that ensures maximum realignment of the parts during the firing cycle. The manual controls are of proprietary design, such as the oversized manual safety on the left side or the flat safety on the right side. The magazine release is made of aluminium and is easily reversible. The non-slip Waves textured grips are also made of anodised aluminium. The trigger is single-action with a very short reset. The suffix OR (Optics Ready) tells us that the steel slide is ready for the direct mounting of mini-reflex optics and therefore has cocking serrations on the front as well. At IWA 2025, the KMR W-02 Vapor was presented both in a compensated version and with a threaded muzzle protruding from the slide front.

Also on display at IWA was the KMR Spectra S, a DA/SA or single-action only pistol chambered in 9mm Luger with a 5"/127 mm fluted and nitrided bull barrel. Even on this model, which is approved for use in dynamic shooting competitions according to IPSC rules, the slide is red dot optic ready and has several lightening cuts, in addition to the cocking serrations also present on its front section. The rear sight is adjustable and the front sight has a high-visibility fibre optic insert. This version is fitted with a series of accessories designed for IPSC shooting competitions, starting with the large aluminium magwell that facilitates magazine insertion, oversized controls, and thumb rest mounted on the left side of the frame. Interesting is the mottled finish of the barrel, which can be chosen to match the colour of the anodised aluminium grips.

It will be interesting to field test one of these guns, which are primarily intended for Dynamic Shooting, a discipline that enjoys great popularity on Czech soil and produces top-level shooters on a continuous basis. To find out more, keep following us.
