The new Aimpoint COA R (where R stands for "Rifle") is a red dot sight designed specifically for use on hunting rifles. The COA R brings the unmistakable advantages of the original COA sight to a wider range of hunting firearms. The Aimpoint red dot sight has an enclosed, ultra-compact tube-free design weighing only 48 grams, an extremely sharp 3.5 MOA diameter dot, and has an optimized optical profile that supports rapid target acquisition at both close and long distances. The Aimpoint COA R provides an unlimited field of view and an extremely stable mounting interface. The reticle is adjusted by means of two Torx screws mounted flush in the housing, which produce a clearly audible click at each adjustment. The dot adjustment per click is 30 mm at 100 m in windage and 20 mm at 100 m in elevation. The brightness of the red dot is adjustable to 12 settings (including four specifically for night vision devices) via the side keys. The compartment housing the 20CR32 type battery is also easily accessible from the side of the sight, without the need to remove it from the rifle. Dimensions are 45x28x30 mm.
“COA R delivers an unlimited field of view, minimal visual obstruction, and a uniquely stable mounting interface. It gives hunters the same intuitive, instinctive shooting experience that made the original COA so successful on pistols – but now optimized for longer distances and more diverse shooting situations,” says Alexander Nordin, Director Commercial Sales at Aimpoint. The COA R uses a dedicated adapter plate to install the A-CUT fooptprint on rifles equipped with MICRO-style mounting interfaces. Once seated, the optic is secured in a full-length dovetail and locked by a front hook and rear wedge. No screws enter the sight housing, and no shear forces are placed on fasteners, ensuring repeatable zero retention even under heavy recoil. Whether used on driven-hunt rifles, semi-automatics, bolt-action or straight-pull rifles, the Aimpoint COA R will be appreciated for its small footprint, extreme robustness and readiness for use. This model also has a run time of 50,000 hours, but being a version designed for hunting and civil use, resistance to water immersion is "only" guaranteed up to a depth of five meters.
Aimpoint COA for handguns projected into the future

But there is also interesting news regarding the possibility of mounting the COA red dot sight on handguns. During the SHOT Show in Las Vegas, the company announced that it had signed agreements with more than thirty manufacturers, which will then be able to offer the COA sight already factory-fitted on their pistols via the integrated A-CUT interface. This expansion marks a significant step in Aimpoint's ambition to establish A-CUT as the new standard for pistol-mounted optics. Several pistol versions with the factory-installed A-CUT red dot will therefore be presented during 2026. A-CUT is a slide-integrated mounting interface that mechanically locks the optic in place, stabilising it in all directions and eliminating movement during recoil. By removing screws from the optic housing and enabling a low-profile installation, A-CUT ensures consistent alignment, durability and co-witness capability. COA will also be available as a stand-alone pistol sight: this option is intended for users wishing to install the COA on an existing pistol. As COA requires an A-CUT interface, installation will have to be carried out by authorised gunsmiths, so Aimpoint is rolling put a licensing program for professional gunsmiths, with applications available via Aimpoint's website.
