Aimpoint Acro P-2 9 MOA, the red dot sight for drone hunting

Aimpoint unveils the ACRO P-2 9 MOA, a new version of the enclosed red dot sight optimised for use with shotguns for tactical use. This red dot has been developed at record speed by the Swedish manufacturer in response to government customer  demand for an effective and easy-to-use option to address small and fast targets at close range, for example short-range drones in operational contexts.

Designed to neutralise short-range aerial threats, the Aimpoint ACRO P2 can also be used by sport shooters.

From initial request to the presentation of the prototype, it took only four weeks. The Aimpoint ACRO P-2 is the professional version of the series. In its original configuration, it features a 2.5 or 3.5 MOA red dot. A civilian variant to be fitted on shotgun ribs (the ACRO S-2) previously offered a larger 9 MOA point for shotguns. That 9 MOA dot is now integrated into the version manufactured for professional use.

Built on proven Aimpoint technology, the ACRO P-2 9 MOA can be quickly mounted on Picatinny rails and requires only a quick zeroing procedure, allowing for rapid deployment in the field. With suitable ammunition, pump-action or semi-automatic tactical shotguns can be effective at 50-60 meters and, in some cases, up to 100 meters.

The Aimpoint ACRO is distinguished by its rugged enclosed construction that makes it insensitive to external elements.

To increase the probability of hitting small, fast-moving targets such as drones, three elements are required: a sight that allows for quick target acquisition, heavier special ammunition with sufficient effective range, and a gun configured for the task. The ACRO P-2 9 MOA provides a larger, more visible dot that enables faster target acquisition at short distances and shortens training time for users less familiar with shotguns. The use of air defence systems or missiles against small drones is often both expensive and impractical. And when a drone suddenly appears at close range, other countermeasures may come too late. This is why the possibility of quickly shooting down a small drone at close range by a single operator becomes so important.

Speed and simplicity are key."This becomes the last line of defence," says Albert Rödfalk, Senior Product Manager at Aimpoint. Rödfalk.“A semi-automatic, magazine-fed shotgun with the right ammunition gives units an inexpensive and immediate option to counter smaller drones. It’s not a universal solution, but within a group at least one soldier should have this tool.” “We saw an urgent need and were able to move from concept to prototype very quickly because we already had the necessary components on the shelf,”  Rödfalk adds.

The launch of the Aimpoint ACRO P-2 comes at a time of heightened global security concerns and repeated reports of drone incursions near both civilian and military facilities. With the right optic, Aimpoint enables the military and law enforcement to strengthen their ability to effectively respond to short-range aerial threats. The Aimpoint sight also gives sport shooters with tactical shotguns new options – for those who want nothing but the best.

The battery life of the Aimpoint ACRO P2 is 50,000 hours of continuous use. Weight is only 61 grams.
