The new powder measure in the typical Frankford Arsenal grey is based on the well-known Intellidropper model from the US manufacturer. The device, which is intended for the automatic measuring of individual powder batches, has now been completely overhauled inside and out and is now available in model version 2.0. The new Intellidropper 2.0 immediately catches the eye with its touchscreen display and significantly larger operating buttons. The powder drain spout has also been redesigned. To make the device quieter and faster, Frankford Arsenal has installed a new stepper motor. The Intellidropper 2.0 has no on/off switch and is operated via the "Home" button. Even without studying the eleven-page quick start guide, the device can be used immediately thanks to its intuitive operation. With four height-adjustable feet, the Intellidropper can be optimally aligned on the worktable in conjunction with a spirit level. We recommend that the device is not set up on the same table as the loading press. It is also important to ensure that it is not exposed to drafts (ventilation systems, radiators). According to the operating instructions, the Intellidropper 2.0 should be allowed to warm up for 15 minutes before each use. The powder dispenser should then be calibrated using the two 50-gram calibration weights supplied. Thanks to the simple menu navigation, this can be done in no time at all.
How the automatic powder calibration works with the Frankford Arsenal Intellidropper 2.0

This is followed by powder calibration, where the device runs at various speeds in order to find the fastest possible dispensing speed for the propellant used. You can then start dispensing the powder. This can be done either in automatic mode or manually. In automatic mode, the device automatically dispenses the next charge once the scale returns to zero and is stable. The device counts the charge dispensed and the acoustic signal can also be switched off if required. After dispensing, a visual indicator also shows whether the powder charge is correct. Red indicates that the quantity is too high and green indicates that everything is in the green zone. The device can also be controlled via Bluetooth with the corresponding app on the smartphone. We didn't use this function any further, we just tried out how quickly it could be set up. The app was connected and paired with the device in no time at all. It is available to download free of charge for iOS or Android devices from the relevant app stores. The Frankford Arsenal Intellidropper 2.0 automatic powder filler currently costs €385.38 in the Strobl.cz online shop. You will find the link at the end of this article.

For our test, the device was warmed up as recommended, then calibrated and then a number of charges were dispensed for break-in. We selected four types of powder to cover a wide range of loads. We used the new Hodgdon CFE powders to test fine spherical powders and the Swiss Reload and two different Vihtavuori powders to test rod powders in various grain sizes. For this purpose, 20 charges of each powder type were dispensed by the Intellidropper 2.0. The charges were all checked on an Ohaus PX124 analytical balance. This laboratory scale has a linearity of 0.0002 grams/0.003 grains. A lot has happened on the market for automatic powder dispensers over the years. In 2023, we compared the then new RCBS devices in a detailed test here on all4shooters. Today it is safe to say that Frankford Arsenal has closed the gap with the competition with the Intellidropper 2.0 and can offer a neat design and solid inner values. The Intellidropper 2.0 remained within the tolerance value of ± 0.1 grain specified by the manufacturer for all charges. However, the more expensive RCBS devices are a little further ahead in terms of precision and speed. Of course, only continuous use will show whether the newcomer can match the durability of its green competitors. The powder drain spout on the Intellidropper has also been revised, but despite the revision, there is still one small point of criticism. It is not possible to reliably check whether the system is completely clean. Unfortunately, the powder hopper tube can't be removed from the device for cleaning, as is the case with the competition.
The bottom line, however, is that the price/performance ratio of the quiet, fast Frankford Arsenal measure/dispenser is good. You get a lot of equipment for your money, as no other model in this price range includes a powder calibration system. And the large display with the large buttons makes operation much easier.
