Mauser 12 DWM: luxury wood and plasma finish for a bolt-action rifle with classic lines

The Mauser Model 98 is certainly one of the most famous rifles of the 20th century. Over the course of more than 125 years, the Mauser bolt action has been used in hunting and military firearms, it has been updated and even today, after Mauser itself included the Model 25 straight-pull rifle in its catalog, it remains a reference point in the history and technology of modern firearms.

The DWM logo is on the magazine floorplate. The trigger guard is finished with a matt grey plasma nitriding.

Mauser 12 DWM, a commemorative edition particularly well cared for

The muzzle is threaded and protected by a movable ring nut. To remove it, it is necessary to loosen the screws securing the sight ramp.

Over the years, Mauser has made several special versions based on the K98, the most recent of which is the DWM 98 presented in 2019, featuring extra luxurious finishes and amazing wood. The "DWM" suffix alludes to the Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabrik, a firearm factory founded in 1896 by Isidor Loewe. DWM was one of the leading gun companies in imperial Germany and supplied the Mauser action rifle to many armies around the world. Now available is the Mauser M12 DWM, a commemorative version of the Model 12, a mid-range rifle that promises exclusive details at a lower price, although we are still talking about guns dedicated mainly to the collectors' market, which is accustomed to big money.

The rifle passes through the skilful hands of the gunsmiths at Mauser Meisterwerkstatt, that masterfully blend traditional values with modern inspirations, combining the highest quality materials with the latest surface treatment technologies to make unique firearms that will accompany their owners throughout their hunting lives, thus continuing the success story of the world's most reliable rifle.

But let us now come to the features of the Mauser M12 DWM: the three-position safety, steel receiver, solid locking lugs that has become a legend, and the top-load function (i.e. through the ejection port) are features that rightly make the Mauser 12 a modern interpretation of the legendary Mauser 98.

The Mauser M12 DWM rifle has a grade 6 walnut pistol grip stock. The barrel is 51 centimeters long and has a diameter of 19 millimeters.

As a tribute to the original Mauser DWM 98, the receiver of this Mauser 12 DWM and all attached parts, such as the sling swivel barrel ring, sight base, trigger guard and bolt handle, are plasma-nitrided and hand-polished. Bolt body is jewelled. The receiver and magazine floorplate bear the DWM logo while the barrel (19-mm diameter) is blued. An M17x1 muzzle thread is concealed under the front sight. To equip the rifle with a silencer, the front sight simply needs to be repositioned by loosening two screws. The aristocratic appearance of the Mauser 12 DWM is complemented by a pistol grip stock made of select grade 6 walnut with ebony forend tip. Under the sight ramp a ring nut conceals the M17x1 thread pitch. To equip the rifle with a silencer, simply reposition the rear sight by loosening two screws.

For the time being, the Mauser 12 DWM is only offered in . 308 Winchester with a barrel length of 51 cm. The official price has not yet been announced.
