Blaser R8 Ultimate X, the high-capacity straight-pull hunting rifle

The Blaser R8 Ultimate X is the latest variation on the theme of the successful straight-pull hunting rifle. The X alludes to the Roman numeral for 10 and refers to the capacity of the box magazine.

For the first time, in fact, the German company is offering such a high capacity, and this has required some modifications to the original design. In order to make room for the 10-round magazine, a steel component has been inserted in the connection point between receiver and stock; the trigger guard has also been flattened in the front, but these changes do not detract from the gun's great ergonomics.

The rifle can be loaded with a single straight movement just by pulling the bolt handle, while the manual cocking lever on the rear of the receiver must be operated to actually cock the firing pin.

Moreover, when shooting right-handed, a left bolt can be used, so that the shooting hand always remains on the pistol grip. Case ejection can be regulated to the left or right by simply changing the bolt head – no tools are needed, and you can use the same barrel and receiver.

Among the features of the new Blaser R8 Ultimate X we find the proprietary saddle mount that allows the scope to be removed and fitted back on the rifle with the guarantee that the point of impact will not be affected. Alternatively, it is possible to mount a Picatinny rail or order the rifle with standard or HIVIZ quick acquisition sights. One of the most technologically advanced features is that by using Blaser optics with illuminated reticle, when you act on the manual cocking lever, the reticle is also illuminated.
