Meopta presents new riflescopes: What characterises the MeoPro R6, MeoPro R5 and MeoHunter series?

Let's start by briefly summarising who built the riflescopes for this video test: Meopta is a long-established Czech optics company founded in 1933 under the name Optikotechna (Meopta is an artificial word from the Czech name Mechaniká optická výroba). Originally, Meopta manufactured not only riflescopes but also magnifiers and cinema projectors, the latter until the 1970s. After the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact in 1991 and the associated economic turbulence, Meopta initially went to the private investor Paul Rasnitz and his family. The product portfolio, with its own development center, ranges from military and sports optics to semiconductors and digital movie projectors to  medical and industrial applications. Gerald Rausnitz, the son of the company founder's eldest brother, modernised Meopta considerably under his leadership, but transferred the now globally active company to the investment consortium Carlyle Group, based in Washington, USA, in 2023.

Today, Meopta employs around 2,500 people in production facilities in the Czech Republic and the USA. Sports shooters and hunters alike appreciate the good price-performance ratio of Meopta riflescopes, which are rugged and suitable for everyday use and are all priced in the three-digit euro range. The guarantee is ten years and the equipment is of high quality, such as the aluminum flip-up protective covers supplied.

Model change for Meopta riflescopes: from the previous Optika 6 series to the new MeoPro R6 and MeoPro R5

The previous models in the Optika 6 series were replaced by the manufacturer Meopta in spring 2025 as an upgrade with the more modern MeoPro R6 (with 6x zoom factor) and MeoPro R5 (with 5x zoom factor) series. Both series have been technically and ergonomically revised:

  • New design: The riflescopes have become more compact and slimmer overall, especially in the eyepiece area.
  • The dimmable illuminated dot has been fine-tuned.
  • Throw lever: The shape of the zoom adjustment lever has been adapted and is still available as standard.
  • Aluminum flip-up covers: High-quality covers for the lens and eyepiece are included with every model.

The new MeoHunter R5 4-20x50 SFP RD, with BC3 reticle (optionally also 4C, both in second focal plane)

With the MeoHunter series, the successor to the previous MeoSport models, Meopta is explicitly targeting hunters. Meopta scores points here with the following features:

  • Fine illuminated dot that does not outshine even in the dark.
  • Parallax compensation, ideal for use with clip-ons at night.
  • Compact design: Particularly advantageous for combinations with clip-ons.
  • Models: 3-15x50 (optional FFP or SFP), 4-20x50 (SFP), 5-25x56 (FFP)

Focus on technical precision: the box test, also suitable when testing your own riflescope

As part of the practical test, the riflescopes were subjected to a so-called box test. This serves to check the precision of the elevation and windage adjustments. The principle is quickly explained: starting from the first point of impact, the reticle is successively adjusted in elevation and then in windage by defined numbers of clicks. At the end of this box-shaped adjustment journey (hence the "box test"), the point of impact should have returned to the starting point with a stable and precise adjustment mechanism.

The results:

  • Clear, perceptible clicks during adjustment.
  • Box test: The scopes returned exactly to their starting point after changing direction (up, down, left, right).
  • Various measurement systems such as MRAD and MOA are available, depending on the model.
The boxing test with Meopta riflescopes
Almost perfect: although shot number 5 deviated slightly to the left, this had no influence on the overall result. Shot number 6 – the final shot in the box test – hit the exact position of shot number 1. If you also take into account the unavoidable spread out caused by the shooter and gun heating, this box test can be rated as almost ideal.

Riflescope variety in magnification and reticle: Meopta offers an unusually large selection here

The series offer a wide range of magnification ranges:

  • MeoPro R6: 1-6x24, 2.5-15x44, 3-18x50, 3-18x56, 4.5-27x50, 5-30x5, i.e. all with 6x zoom factor
  • MeoPro R5: 2-10x42, 3-15x44, 4-20x44 and 4-20x50, all with 5x zoom factor

Many models are available as both First Focal Plane (FFP) and Second Focal Plane (SFP). Sports-oriented users in particular benefit from FFP models with proportional reticle magnification – important for precise ballistics calculations at varying distances.

The long-range specialist. The view through the Meopta Meopro R6 5-30x56 FFP RD riflescope is impressive. The MeoPro R6 riflescope series was developed to offer hunters and sports shooters a riflescope with first-class optical and mechanical properties at an affordable price.

With the new MeoHunter and MeoPro models, Meopta is targeting hunters, sports shooters and price-conscious users

A key selling point of the new Meopta series is the very good price-performance ratio. The prices are all below the 1,000 euro mark:

  • MeoHunter: from about 599 euro (RRP in Germany  )
  • MeoPro: approx. 699 to 799 euro (depending on focal plane,  RRPs in Germany)

According to the test, the combination with heavy clip-ons is also possible without any problems thanks to the sturdy yet lightweight design.
