CZ 457 MDT ACC in .22 LR – A rimfire match rifle with great potential

The 2025 Rimfire World Championship of the International Precision Rifle Federation (IPRF) was held at the West Midlands Shooting Ground near the small town of Market Drayton. Originally one of the finest clay target ranges in the United Kingdom, it now also hosts rimfire PRS matches organized by the GBPRA (Great Britain Precision Rifle Association). The densely wooded area with a hill in the center features varying elevations and wind conditions, which presented challenges for the World Championship participants on 20 stages with 250 shots and maximum distances of 250 meters.

But now let's take a look at our protagonist CZ 457 MDT ACC – the new abbreviation ACC stands for "Adjustable Core Competition" and already indicates that the weight distribution can be adjusted thanks to the chassis system.

Here on all4shooters.com we have already published a test report on the CZ 457 MDT version with the significantly lighter and simpler LSS chassis from the Canadian manufacturer MDT. The 24-inch (610 mm) long, cold hammer-forged barrel with 1:16" twist rate is mounted in the receiver of the new MDT ACC. With a considerable outer diameter of 22 mm over its entire length, the barrel is correspondingly heavy and has a 1/2"x20 muzzle thread and a knurled locking nut. The barrel is therefore 4 inches (102 mm) longer than the previous LSS version. Selected models, like our test rifle, are also available with a Match cartridge chamber.

The action of CZ 457 MDT ACC rifle is bedded in the chassis with recoil lugs and two screws with corresponding washers. The Match trigger pull weight is adjustable between 1,131 g and 1,427 g.

A one-piece 170 mm Picatinny rail with 25 MOA inclination is mounted on the receiver above the 11 mm rail. The bolt throw is 60° and has all the features that we have already covered in the presentation of the CZ 457 MDT: a non-slip bolt handle ball made of synthetic material for fast, comfortable repeating, a significantly lighter firing pin than in the earlier 455 series for quick lock time, which also eliminates the need for buffer cartridges during dry fire training thanks to its design. It also has a double-sided extractor that holds the cartridge in place until it is reached by the rigid ejector in the action.

A cocking indicator is located at the rear of the bolt. When the gun is loaded and cocked, a red signalling pin appears. The two-position safety on the right side of the action only acts on the trigger; with a little practice, it can also be operated silently. In the forward position the gun is ready to fire, in the rear position the safety is engaged. On the left side of the action there is a push-button for the bolt catch, after which the bolt can be removed to the rear. According to the manufacturer, the match trigger is adjustable in pull weight between 1,131 g and 1,427 g. However, our test gun had a measured trigger pull weight of only 1,007 g. After disassembling the chassis, the trigger pull weight, over- and pre-travel can be adjusted. The trigger can be certified as match-ready. The curved box magazine made of polymer sits deep in the magazine well of the chassis and is almost flush with the underside of the stock. The magazine release, which is mounted in front of the magazine, is also positioned deep in the aluminum chassis. Due to its own weight, the magzaine falls out of the well when the release is operated.

The buttstock of the MDT-ACC chassis has all the adjustment options of the centerfire CZ 600 sister model. The length-adjustable buttplate provides a LOP (Length of Pull) of 340 to 376 mm. The height of the butt plate and cheekpiece is also adjustable. The voluminous 90° vertical pistol grip can also be adjusted in angle and position to fine-tune the trigger finger position. The handguard, which is even longer than in the centerfire rifle, has multiple M-LOK interfaces on all three surfaces and an ARCA rail along its entire length on the underside. The barrier stop offers more contact surface compared to the LSS chassis.

On the shooting range with the .22 LR CZ 457 MDT ACC

Shot pattern 50 m RWS
CZ 457 MDT ACC: best grouping at 50 m with the new RWS Long Range Match and 5 shots at 6 mm (measured centet to centet).
Shot pattern 100 m CZ 457 MDT ACC
CZ 457 MDT ACC: best grouping at 100 m with the proven RWS R100 and 5 shots at 18 mm.

We mounted a Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56 riflescope on the CZ 457 MDT ACC with an ERATAC block mount to test the shooting performance with 16 types of rimfire ammo at 50 and 100 meters .

To summarise: at the shorter range, we achieved the 6-mm top group (measured center to center of the outer shot holes) with the new RWS Long Range Match (here is a detailed test we recently made). With a dozen other types of ammunition, we achieved groupings below the 15 mm mark and with only one cartridge we were above 20 mm. The ammunition compatibility of the test rifle with the inexpensive S&B Club was also pleasing with a 9-mm group. At the 100-m distance, two cartridges, namely the RWS R100 and the Lapua Long Range, shared first place with 18-mm. The longer barrel did not bring any significant changes in terms of velocity compared to the CZ 457 MDT.

Conclusion after testing the CZ 457 MDT ACC

The new top model from the CZ 457 series convinced us even more, as it is an identical rimfire training gun to complement the centerfire CZ 600 MDT. Due to the first-class chassis with more adjustment and mounting options, the non-binding recommended retail price is €2,845 (the CZ 457 MDT is currently priced at just under €1,750).
