Smith & Wesson has just dropped the new Axe sporting rifle series: four models – two full-length rifles and two short barrel rifles (SBRs) – all chambered in 5.56x45mm but with different barrel lengths.
The new rifles share the basic features, including the Gemtech GVAC technology (upper receiver and gas system) which reduces gas blow-back when suppressed compared to a traditional direct-impingement systems (see the video below for more info). This makes the Axe rifles optimized for suppressed use.

Among the other interesting features, the ETM Flash Hider system, full ambi controls, improved reliability bolt carrier group with unique geometry for improved reliability in dusty and sandy environments, chromed firing pin, 4150 chromed barrel with 5R 1:8" twist rifling, and M&P grip with interchangeable palmswells. Moreover, all the Axe rifles come with M&P tactical folding sights and Radian Raptor charging handle. Stock is a Magpul CTR, handguard is the Combat M-LOK free-float type from Midwest Industries. The Hiperfire Enhanced Duty Trigger with copper PVD finish and flat trigger blade tops off the Axe package. Thanks to the long top Picatinny rail, the Axe rifles are optic ready too. Capacity is 30+1 rounds.
