New Smith & Wesson Performance Center Bodyguard 2.0 Carry Comp, a ported .380 Auto micro-compact carry gun

Smith & Wesson's Performance Center – the manufacturer's “elite” division specializing in designing enhanced and high-performance versions of standard S&W's models – introduces the Bodyguard 2.0 Carry Comp micro-compact pistol. Chambered in .380 Auto, the latest addition to the Carry Comp series features advanced ergonomics and, above all, a PowerPort ported barrel and slide that help reduce felt recoil and muzzle flip. The short video introduction below clearly shows how it works and its actual effectiveness.

A lightweight and compact striker-fired handgun with 3.1”/79 mm barrel: Smith & Wesson Performance Center Bodyguard 2.0 Carry Comp – here the version with thumb safety.

A bit more about the patented Carry Comp technology: the ports the cut through the barrel as well as the slide divert part of the expanding gases upwards during firing. This helps reduce felt recoil and muzzle rise, which also equates faster follow-up shots without losing your target. Nothing really new – barrel porting has been around for many years now for both high-power revolvers and semi-auto handguns – but not so common on smaller caliber pistols: in fact, the Performance Center Carry Comp pistols already included several M&P9 2.0 9mm models. Now comes the micro-compact Bodyguard in .380 Auto, an everyday carry gun featuring a 3.1”/79 mm barrel, a redesigned slide and Ameriglo night sights.

As is the case of many other pistol models in its catalog, for the same price tag of $549 (MSRP in the US), Smith & Wesson offers two variants of the new Bodyguard 2.0 Carry Comp, with or without thumb safety. But apart from the presence (or lack) of the additional small thumb safety on the rear of the frame, the two guns are exactly the same: striker-fired, double-action only handguns designed for ergonomic concealability.

Frame is polymer with a slim textured grip; slide is stainless steel, with Performance Center Grey Armornite finish. Aggressive serrations with increased coverage allows users to grab and rack effectively in any situation. Following the recent trend, trigger is flat. The front sight is an Ameriglo Protector LumiGreen coupled to a blacked-out square notch rear sight.

The Smith & Wesson Performance Center Bodyguard 2.0 Carry Comp ships with one 10-round and one 12-round magazines.
