CRKT Bona Fide, the Hawaiian knife that can be disassembled without tools

Ken Onion is a world-renowned American designer who moved to the Hawaiian Islands many years ago. To pay homage to the rich culture and verdant landscape of his adopted country, he designed the Bona Fide everyday carry knife to resemble the shape of a Wa'a, the traditional Hawaiian canoe. Moreover, he further enhanced the Field Strip tool-free disassembly system, which is now in its second generation.

The CRKT Bona Fide can be easily disassembled into three compnents. This makes it much easier to clean and maintain.

Years ago, in his workshop in Kaneohe, Hawaii, Ken Onion invented the first generation of the Field Strip technology. For 2021, CRKT has reworked this concept and is ready to launch the Field Strip Gen II where this innovation offers even simpler and more reliable operation.

The CRKT Bona Fide is a folding knife for everyday use that measures approximately 8”/20 cm from the tip of the sturdy D2 blade to the end of the lightweight textured aluminum handle, available in silver gray or olive green. The blade profile is a modified drop point, with a satin finish. Opening is lightning-fast thanks to a flipper and IKBS ball-bearing pivot system. The blade is locked open by a proven liner lock system. On the left side of the handle there is a small steel clip that can't be repositioned. It allows the knife to be carried tip up.

The Field Strip Gen II system allows the knife to be quickly disassembled without the need for any tools, making it easier to remove any accumulated grease and dirt.

How the Field Strip Gen II disassembly system works

When the knife is closed, simply slide the lever up to release the knife into three components (the blade and the two handles). To reassemble, simply place the blade between  the two handles and slide the lever down. 

The price of the CRKT Bona Fide in the US is $100, around €80 at today's exchange rate.
